Senior Business Manager – CEO Office (12-month Fixed Term Contract)
Based: Edinburgh or Glasgow
The Scottish National Investment Bank is seeking an exceptional Senior Business Manager to work in close partnership with the Chief Executive Officer.
This is a high-impact, senior role at the heart of the organisation. You will act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, providing strategic, analytical and operational support, and helping translate strategic intent into clear priorities and effective delivery across the Bank.
Operating with significant autonomy and judgement, you will manage complex cross-organisational activity, support high-quality decision-making, and ensure the CEO’s time, focus and engagement are aligned to the Bank’s strategic objectives.
We welcome applications from candidates who believe they can excel in this role, even if you do not meet every requirement. We value diverse experience and perspectives and encourage applications from all backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a trusted advisor and sounding board to the Chief Executive Officer on strategic, organisational and reputational matters.
* Anticipate emerging issues, risks and opportunities requiring CEO attention, providing clear analysis and options.
* Coordinate the development, integration and tracking of corporate priorities, business plans and CEO objectives.
* Produce high-quality briefing, analysis and insight to support CEO decision-making, synthesising complex information from multiple sources.
* Attend Executive Committee meetings as a senior participant, capturing strategic decisions, key risks and cross-cutting actions, and proactively monitoring and challenging delivery.
* Escalate delivery risks, interdependencies or slippage to the CEO with clear analysis and recommended interventions.
* Act as a central liaison point between the CEO and the Executive Team, functional leaders and staff, supporting effective collaboration across the organisation.
* Lead the coordination, development and quality assurance of Board and Committee papers on behalf of the CEO, ensuring submissions are decision-focused, evidence-based and meet governance, assurance and risk standards.
* Work closely with the Executive Assistant to support forward planning of the CEO’s schedule and evolving priorities.
* Liaise with external offices and stakeholders to ensure the CEO is fully briefed for meetings and events.
* Lead and deliver discrete projects and special initiatives on behalf of the CEO.
Key Skills and Experience
* Significant experience operating at a senior level within a complex organisation (for example public sector, regulated or similarly complex environments).
* Strategic thinking capability, with the ability to move fluidly between big-picture context and operational detail.
* Highly effective collaborator, able to drive priorities and deliver outcomes through influence rather than formal authority.
* High levels of political awareness, judgement and discretion.
* Self-motivated, highly organised and able to prioritise competing demands and deliver to tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
* Proactive and solutions-focused, using initiative to progress matters on behalf of the CEO.
* Sound understanding of organisational strategy and the ability to build credibility and relationships internally and externally.
* A clear commitment to role-modelling inclusive behaviours and the Bank’s values.
Desirable Experience
* Experience within banking, government and/or management consultancy environments.
* Experience providing direct office or business management support to a Chief Executive or senior executive.
