Mechanical Engineer Contract: Permanent Salary: £60,000 - £77,000 + Bonus + Shift Allowance Location: Larne An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a leading Maintenance & Engineering team supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of major energy generation assets. This role is critical in ensuring the complete asset care of a diverse portfolio of combined cycle and open cycle gas turbine plant, supporting operational performance, reliability, and compliance across a highly technical environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased engineer with power generation experience to join a business operating large-scale critical infrastructure assets. The Role Reporting to the Lead Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across a broad range of mechanical systems, supporting plant reliability, maintenance strategy, outages, upgrades, and asset integrity. You will work closely with operations, maintenance teams, OEMs, and contractors to optimise plant performance while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership Lead and execute mechanical engineering activities across multiple generating assets and associated balance of plant systems Develop and maintain asset management strategies to maximise reliability and operational performance Support the integrity and safe operation of gas turbines, steam turbines, pumps, compressors, fans, valves, pressure systems, fuel systems, pipework, and auxiliary plant Ensure compliance with engineering standards, legislation, and company procedures Operations & Maintenance Support Manage long-term condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and diagnostics programmes Support maintenance teams with fault finding and complex troubleshooting activities Review and manage spare parts strategies, obsolescence planning, and procurement activities Coordinate maintenance activities to ensure work is delivered safely and efficiently Outage & Project Management Lead mechanical scope during major outages, overhauls, and plant upgrades Manage contractor performance during shutdowns and capital projects Support long-term service agreements (LTSA/CSA), technical evaluations, and upgrade proposals Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and technical meetings with OEMs Work collaboratively with OEMs and contractors to ensure quality refurbishment and inspection standards Leadership & Continuous Improvement Provide technical coaching and knowledge transfer to maintenance teams Support cross-functional collaboration across engineering and operations Contribute positively to site safety culture through inspections, briefings, and compliance activities Assist with budget preparation and financial control within the engineering function The Person We are keen to speak with candidates who have: Significant mechanical engineering experience within Open Cycle and Combined Cycle Power Plants Strong experience maintaining rotating equipment and critical mechanical assets Knowledge of maintenance strategies, engineering legislation, and industry compliance standards Experience planning and coordinating outages, overhauls, or major maintenance activities Strong analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities The ability to drive continuous improvement and support team development Qualifications Degree qualified in a Mechanical Engineering discipline, or equivalent third-level qualification with significant power station experience Chartered Engineer status desirable This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking to play a key role in maintaining and improving high-value energy generation assets within a complex operational environment.
