Role Overview
A Personal Assistant is required to support a thirteen‑year‑old autistic boy with ADHD and attachment difficulties, living in Perranporth. The assistant will build a positive and trusting relationship and provide 1:1 support to help him engage in local community activities and develop greater independence after school and at weekends.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the boy in everyday activities, including transportation to the school and community events.
* Encourage participation in outdoor activities such as skateboarding, scootering, biking, surfing, and leisure activities like LEGO building and gaming.
* Support the boy’s development of confidence and self‑reliance.
* Maintain a safe and welcoming home environment, being comfortable around the family’s two large dogs.
Compensation & Hours
Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour, with potential for a higher rate based on experience and relevant skills. Hours: 9 per week with flexible scheduling to accommodate after‑school, weekend, and holiday availability.
Requirements
* Experience working with young people on the autism spectrum is highly advantageous.
* Desirable but not essential: a full driving licence.
* Must be able to travel independently to Perranporth.
* Comfortable working in a home with dogs.
Employment Details
The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and will not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council. All offers of employment will be subject to the successful candidate undertaking an enhanced DBS check, administration of which will be handled by Cornwall Council.
