We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age to join the Functional Intensive and Response Support Team (FIRST) and the Dementia Intensive Support Service (DISS) in Mid Essex. The FIRST team is based at the Crystal Centre, Broomfield, serving mainly functional older adults over 70 years old from the Mid Essex area. The DISS team focuses on organic mental health conditions, and the post holder will provide consultant input to both services.
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership for assessing and managing older adult patients (70+) experiencing crises within the catchment area. Referrals to FIRST are accepted via phone, with the requirement that the patient has been seen face-to-face within 24 hours and has provided consent. The referral line operates from 8 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week, managed by a CPN-shift coordinator.
The post requires registration with the GMC and inclusion on the Specialist Register, with a CCT or equivalent, or being within six months of obtaining your CCT at the time of appointment.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide clinical leadership and act as Responsible Clinician for patients in FIRST and DISS.
2. Review new patients promptly and oversee clinical management to prevent hospital admissions and manage crises.
3. Participate in timely reviews, meetings, and discharge planning, escalating to inpatient care when necessary.
4. Attend inpatient MDTs for complex cases.
5. Support staff development and service improvement initiatives.
6. Provide clinical supervision to SAS doctors.
7. Engage in clinical audits to ensure continuous service improvement.
8. Cover for colleagues' holidays and absences with mutual agreement.
