We are seeking a friendly and hardworking individual to join our dedicated team at University Hospitals Coventry. The Nuclear Medicine Department provides a comprehensive service including PET/CT, SPECT/CT and molecular radiotherapy. We also have an onsite Radiopharmacy that produces Tc99m and Ga68 radiopharmaceuticals.

The successful candidate will support the imaging services by performing routine patient scanning, patient preparation for PET-CT scanning and generally assisting patients throughout the department. They will be self-motivated, organised with excellent communication and work effectively both independently and within a team. Applicants must hold a Level 3 qualification in health and social care or have equivalent practical experience.

The department operates a five day working week (Mon-Fri) between the hours of 08:00 – 18:30.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Assisting the Multidisciplinary team in delivering a high standard Nuclear Medicine Service.

The post holder will perform a wide range of duties associated with diagnostic radionuclide imaging and non-imaging investigations.

The post holder will be required to follow departmental procedures. The work will be supervised by a Clinical Technologist or a more senior member of the technical staff, as required.

To perform routine radionuclide investigations, using a gamma camera to obtain the optimum diagnostic images of radiopharmaceutical distribution. This requires the alteration of standard protocols to suit individual patient needs and precise positioning of patient and equipment to obtain optimum images.

Provide the patient with a full explanation of the investigation. Communicate relevant information about the investigation to staff accompanying patients, and senior colleagues, as appropriate

To undertake image processing and data analysis. Presenting images and data in a manner that facilitates efficient reporting.

Administer a limited number of radiopharmaceuticals to patients, either orally or as a gas.

To minimise financial costs by safe and effective use of high capital value equipment.

Assist with the procedures required when people or the environment become contaminated with radioactive material. This includes dealing with the containment, decontamination and disposal of radioactive material arising from the spillage of a radiopharmaceutical source/injection or body fluid, including urine and blood, from a patient who has been administered a radiopharmaceutical.

Ensure that patients are prepared for specific investigations, including PET/CT, in a timely and efficient manner.

To assist in the preparation of paediatric patients; to include the application of a suitable topical anaesthetic, explanation of procedures including comforter and carer documentation, and dose checking.

To assist in the cannulation/venous access of paediatric patients as advised by a qualified paediatric technologist/nurse. This includes liaising with the children's ward and ward manager where appropriate.

To be able to adapt to the different levels of emotional/physical support paediatric patients need when in nuclear medicine.

Perform regular stock checks of consumables and order supplies to maintain stock levels.

Take an active role in the departments radiation protection and quality assurance programmes. Daily test imaging equipment to ensure correct performance.

Keep the work area clean and tidy, following specific Trust and Departmental procedures, for the handling and disposal of hazardous waste including 'radioactive waste'.

Be aware of and conform to the relevant legislation governing the practice of Nuclear Medicine Technology, following the safe working practices as described by local and national policy.

To assist in any other duties as directed by the Technical Manager or Deputy Technical Manager.
