Do you have excellent communication skills that allow you to work with professionals of all levels of skill, experience and knowledge?

Have you got experience of Early Years education and special educational needs?

Do you love spending time with children to support their wellbeing, learning and development?

Sensory Worx are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic, highly professional and self-motivated Occupational Therapy Assistant within a County Durham location (Base – DH6 3JS). This is a community post that will require travel throughout the North East of England.

You will be based at our specially equipped Ayre’s Sensory Integration clinic for the North east, supporting people across the lifespan, families, schools and a variety of organisations across the North East.

Who we are:

Sensory Worx is a therapy team working with people and families who experience developmental difference. We are passionate about improving understanding of sensory issues and the impact they have on people’s function. We work with adults and children with complex and diverse presentations – this includes sensory processing difficulties, chromosomal differences, physical disabilities, attachment issues and or early life trauma.

We work a variety of settings from schools, charity provision, medical settings, workplaces and more. We believe that all people should be given the chance to reach their full potential and we are passionate to make this happen by supporting children, their families, schools, local authorities and the wider community to understand the impact of sensory processing difficulties.

The role:

The purpose of the team is to provide Occupational Therapeutic support to individuals and their families. Occupational Therapy Assistant staff will support qualified therapists in the assessment and delivery of therapy interventions. Much of the interventions are provided by play based engagement, with programmes of therapeutic movement. They will work autonomously in the delivery of interventions under the guidance and direction of qualified staff. Occupational Therapy Assistants will be required to keep detailed clinical notes. All of our stakeholders are given the highest level of support and understanding within a professional but approachable relationship.

We are a team of problem solvers, using sound clinical reasoning and evidence to guide us. Therapy interventions may be in the form of one to one therapy, group interventions, consultations with other professionals or with families. Interventions will primarily incorporate sensory approaches, Ayre’s Sensory Integration, Intensive Interaction, amongst other Occupational Therapy approaches. As part of the team, you will receive regular clinical supervision and annual appraisal.

You will be responsible for taking an active and supportive role within the Sensory Worx team. You will be expected to work under the guidance of more senior staff but use your initiative in ensuring service users are fully supported and the reputation of Sensory Worx is maintained at all times.

Travel will be required very regularly throughout the North East and occasionally across the North of England.
