Project Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Blackburn
Salary: between £48'000 to £55'000 - dependent on experience + bonus
This role exists to strengthen hands on project delivery across design and delivery.
The focus is primarily on mechanical design, but the role also carries real accountabilities for all processes within the end to end process. Cross functionally supporting all departments to ensure projects are coordinated. You will wear many hats!
Project Mechanical Design Engineer - What the role involves
You will manage projects from start to finish, creating designs to meet customer and production requirements. Work varies widely, from smaller production jobs to complex multi-system projects, alongside ongoing improvements to standards, drawings and processes.
Day to day, you will:
* Produce and modify drawings and materials to support live orders
* Working closely with your support network, helping resolve issues as they arise and keeping work moving
* Coordinate activity across design, sales, production and administration
* Work directly with customers and suppliers on technical queries
* Ensure designs meet relevant specifications and international standards
* Work to deadlines maximising output
Projects often run in parallel and cut across several functions, so the role requires someone comfortable juggling priorities and taking a broad view of delivery. Occasional UK and overseas site visits may be required, depending on project needs.
* CAD and design systems
* The business currently operates a mixed CAD environment
* Layouts and standard parts are produced in Inventor
* Detailed design work is completed in SolidWorks
Project Mechanical Design Engineer - What we are looking for
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Product Design or similar
* 7+ years’ experience in a design or project-based engineering role ideally as a Project Mechanical Design Engineer, Project Engineer or Mechanical Design Engineer
* Strong CAD capability in SolidWorks or Inventor, including detailed manufacturing drawings
* A solid understanding of 2D drawing standards and geometric tolerancing
* Practical knowledge of manufacturing methods
* The confidence to deal directly with customers, suppliers and internal teams
* A hands-on approach and willingness to get involved beyond the design office
* The ability to manage multiple projects to agreed timescales
