The role
As an Instrumentation and Control Commissioning Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering one of the UK’s flagship nuclear new build projects. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a major clean energy programme while developing highly sought-after skills in commissioning, instrumentation, and control systems within a complex engineering environment.
You’ll act as a subject matter expert for the commissioning of industrial instrumentation and control systems, supporting their integration into wider plant systems. From early planning through to final handover, your work will directly support safe, efficient, and compliant operations—making a meaningful impact on national energy security and sustainability.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
1. Supporting the preparation for installation and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems
2. Executing onsite commissioning tests across a range of industrial systems
3. Collaborating with installation teams to verify build quality and readiness for commissioning
4. Reviewing and enhancing commissioning processes, procedures, and best practices
5. Recording, analysing, and reporting commissioning data, test results, and findings.
This is a full-time role (5 days per week) based onsite at Hinkley Point C. During early planning phases, limited flexibility for homeworking may be available.
Essential experience of the Instrumentation and Control Commissioning Engineer:
6. Demonstrating practical knowledge of process measurement systems (pressure, flow, level, temperature)
7. Applying hands-on experience with industrial instrumentation and associated equipment
8. Working with control systems such as distributed control systems and programmable logic controllers
9. Supporting commissioning, testing, or maintenance activities in heavy industry environments
10. Communicating technical information clearly to multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications for the Instrumentation and Control Commissioning Engineer:
11. Degree or Higher National Certificate in a relevant engineering discipline.
