Role: Social Worker – MACH Team
Department: Children’s Social Care, Middlesbrough Council
Location: Middlesbrough
Purpose of Role
• To act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns raised about children and families in Middlesbrough.
• To provide timely screening, triage, and decision-making in partnership with multi-agency colleagues.
• To ensure children and young people receive the right level of support and intervention at the earliest opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
• Receive and assess referrals regarding children at risk of harm or in need of support.
• Work collaboratively with partner agencies (police, health, education, voluntary sector) to share information and make joint decisions.
• Apply thresholds for intervention consistently, ensuring proportionate responses.
• Record and maintain accurate case notes and decisions in line with council policies.
• Contribute to safeguarding strategy discussions and attend multi-agency meetings.
• Promote early help pathways and signpost families to appropriate services.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Qualified Social Worker with registration to Social Work England.
• Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, Working Together to Safeguard Children guidance, and local safeguarding procedures.
• Experience of working in a front-line safeguarding or referral team.
• Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
Desirable
• Experience of multi-agency working within a hub or integrated team.
• Knowledge of Middlesbrough’s local services and early help offer.
