Overview
Astute's Power Team is working with developers of a major Waste-to‑Energy power generation project in the UK. The new build facility, located in Irvine, North Ayrshire, will produce approximately 17 MW through incineration of about 180,000 tonnes of waste per year and is expected to enter commissioning phase and become operational in 2027.
The Maintenance Manager will lead the maintenance strategy, managing a multi‑discipline team and ensuring the facility operates in full compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
* Manage and run the maintenance department comprising multi‑skilled engineers and technicians.
* Manage the site's CMMS system, implementing planned preventative maintenance requirements while ensuring safe and efficient plant operation.
* Plan, manage and execute outages/shutdowns, working closely with site engineers.
* Manage and control maintenance sub‑contractors.
* Manage the department's budget and report budget performance in line with accounting practices.
* Ensure all activities are carried out to the highest standard of health and safety.
* Develop site maintenance & safety procedures, liaising with the EPC Warranty Team to ensure compliance.
* Take an active part in plant mobilisation and commissioning activities, including staff recruitment and training.
Professional Qualifications
* Ideally a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
* Mechanical bias would be advantageous.
* HNC / HND / ONC Engineering qualifications considered with relevant experience.
* IOSH or NEBOSH certification advantageous.
Personal Skills & Experience
* At least five years in maintenance/engineering management on a large process plant, ideally Power Generation (Candidates from Power, Utilities, Refineries, Petrochemical, COMAH considered).
* Extensive hands‑on maintenance experience in power generation, with solid knowledge of pressure part systems, rotating plant, steam plant, and boilers.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation including PSSR, LOLER, PUWER, etc.
* Extensive plant outage experience.
* Experience in plant mobilisation and commissioning to handover highly advantageous.
