Are you an 8A Clinical Psychologist seeking progression? Or an existing 8B Clinical Psychologist ready for a new challenge? We would love for you to come and join us to provide clinical leadership in our West Suffolk Young Adult Mental Health Services!


We’re looking for a pro-active, passionate, and motivated 8B Principal Clinical Psychologist. As one of the few trusts in the country with a dedicated service line recognising the unique needs and challenges faced by those in the 18 - 25 year old age range, we pride ourselves on our developmentally informed secondary mental health service . This post offers the opportunity to work and provide clinical leadership within the West Suffolk YAMHS service promoting and enhancing psychological knowledge and understanding, and upholding the highest standards of clinical governance.

Main duties of the job



  • Providing consultation to indirectly support the delivery of treatment by others.

  • Providing clinical supervision to experienced psychologists and other professionals.

  • Progressing staff development in the team, informing and being informed by, wider strategy.

  • Collaborative and shared leadership of the team with the Clinical Team Manager and Consultant Psychiatrist.

  • Establishing and leading on psychologically safe and informed environment for teams and staff through positive leadership values and behaviours, including: integrity, respect, compassion and curiosity.

  • Providing a key role in team containment, working with professional systems, having difficult conversations, managing team emotions, thinking clinically and systemically simultaneously.

  • Running, contributing to or supporting service development projects in liaison with the Associate Director of Psychology or other staff from the Senior Leadership Team.

  • Providing and contributing significantly to the psychological practice of the team with a focus on quality, efficacy and increasing improvement.

  • Working alongside the Consultant Clinical Psychologists for CYP services across Suffolk and Norfolk in developing clinical pathway intervention packages.

Person specification


Qualifications



  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, or its equivalent, including eligibility for chartered status with the BPS

  • Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)

  • Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice


Experience



  • Specialist complex psychological assessment and treatment of people with a wide range of mental health problems, of varying severity and complexity

  • Relevant experience in service area

  • Extensive experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist and evidence of specialist knowledge gained through practice and ongoing training

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups and presenting problems including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems

  • Teaching, training and delivering clinical supervision

  • Working in the relevant service to support specialist knowledge

  • Representing psychology within MDT setting (clinical and organisational contexts)


Skills



  • Assessment, evaluation and management of risk associated with mental ill health and related psychopathology

  • Production of reports suitable for public presentations and presentation in medicolegal setting


Knowledge



  • Well-developed knowledge of the Application Form / Interview / theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities etc.)

  • Providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups


Other



  • Capacity to exercise careful clinical judgement whilst having the ability to work with and to hold the stress of others in the work setting

  • Ability to travel independently
