Overview
An experienced Clinical Research Nurse is sought to lead the Clinical Research Team within the Rheumatology Research Department at University College London Hospital (UCLH). The role involves managing clinical trials and observational studies for adolescents and adults with inflammatory rheumatic diseases.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide line management to research nurses, clinical trial practitioners and research coordinators.
* Recruit patients into clinical trials in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and WMA guidelines.
* Design and deliver training for all team members.
* Lead, plan, and oversee research projects as the Rheumatology Clinical Research Lead.
* Maintain health, safety and security, ensuring adherence to local and national policies.
* Promote equity, diversity and patient rights, ensuring inclusive and patient‑centred practice.
* Develop own knowledge and expertise within the speciality and refer to other professionals when needed.
* Support patients in care delivery, providing advice and information while addressing their needs.
* Monitor intervention effectiveness, modify care plans, and facilitate recruitment into studies.
* Manage Investigator Site Files, study documentation and electronic records.
* Ensure all contractual, regulatory and ethical obligations are observed.
* Provide administrative support for interventional and cohort studies.
* Report recruitment metrics, resolve data queries, and provide updates to sponsors and investigators.
* Cross‑support centre activities such as meetings, PPIE events, and inspections.
* Encourage development of phlebotomy skills among staff.
* Assist with audit, regulatory inspection, and SOP maintenance.
* Contribute to effective communication with trial centres, sponsors and investigators.
* Disseminate study data and outcomes through presentations, publications and media.
* Develop planning, organising, problem‑solving and prioritisation skills for effective leadership.
* Manage caseloads, liaise with agencies, and provide specialist advice.
* Support training of junior staff and negotiate responsibilities with partners.
* Ensure adequate study supplies, order stock and collaborate with pharmacy and laboratories.
* Participate in local, national and international research networks.
Qualifications / Experience
* Proven experience leading research teams within the NHS.
* Experience conducting clinical research involving adolescents and adults with rheumatic conditions.
* Strong communication skills and proficiency in relevant computer systems.
* In-depth knowledge of Good Clinical Practice, WMA Code of Clinical Research, GCP Guidelines and governing research legislation.
* Ability to maintain study protocols, data quality and regulatory compliance.
* Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.
Other Important Information
* Full‑time, 37.5 hours a week until 31/03/2025 (or as required).
* Based at UCLH’s Rheumatology Research Department – University College Hospital.
* Flexible working arrangements may be available.
