Empowered specialises in delivering low carbon and renewable energy solutions for a wide range of clients in the West of England and Wales. We work across three primary sectors: Community Energy, Landowner Representation and Technical Consultancy. As a Renewable Energy Consultant, you'll work within the technical consultancy team and support clients across these sectors to help them measure and improve their sustainability performance. We are looking for someone with Mechanical Engineering qualifications and experience and with an appetite for varied work across Mechanical and Electrical solutions within a team environment.
Main duties and responsibilities
This role is within the technical consultancy team which supports clients end to end from helping clients understand their energy use, creating an energy strategy and assisting with priorities, creation and analysis of data, feasibility for specific technical solutions, grant and project budget management, procurement, project management, client liaison including owner's engineer support. The team covers the following disciplines (list is not exhaustive) and is focused on commercial scale solutions for:
· Low Carbon and Renewable Heating
· Building Physics and Energy Efficiency
· Energy Monitoring
· Energy Systems Optimisation
· Solar Photovoltaics
· Wind Turbines
· Battery Energy Storage Systems
· EV charging systems
· Grid support services
· Planning services
· Combinations of the above
Requirements
As a consultant within the technical consultancy team, applicants will be expected to support clients at all stage of the development and installation process and where possible end to end, working with other members of the team to offer the right blend of skills for that particular project.
You will need to:
· Prepare fee proposals;
· Write and review reports;
· Carry out analysis of heat and power data;
· Conduct feasibility studies;
· Collaborate with colleagues to design solutions;
· Project manage retrofit and new development projects, support specification and procurement;
· Identify solutions and work with third parties to implement;
· Undertake procurement and tender specification creation;
· Manage grant fund and project budgets
· Support colleagues with planning and grid services projects;
· Support community energy development team with technical consultancy support;
· Form good working relationships with clients and members of the team;
· Carry out site visits and surveys;
· Be comfortable preparing and presenting data to third parties;
· Support the business development process;
· Participate in training and team development; and
· Mentor and support other members of the business as part of the above.
Experience
We welcome applications from applicants who are excited to work within the energy sustainability and renewable energy sector specifically with renewable heat and power projects. The applicant will have solid experience working in an engineering consultancy or related field and will either be a member of, or working towards, a relevant professional membership. Ideally the preferred candidate will have some experience working on renewable heating and renewable power projects.
Experience of using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Python, Autocad or equivalent.
Desired experience of producing heat loss calculations, working knowledge of heat networks, building physics, retrofit and using dynamic modelling (IES or similar), solar and or wind design software
Experience of working with commercial scale renewable energy projects and Local Authorities is beneficial.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering as a primary qualification with experience in Electrical Engineering projects
