English Teacher (Maternity Cover)
Location: Darlington, County Durham
Contract: Full-time, Maternity Cover
Key Stages: KS3-KS4
Start Date: April 2026
About the Role
A well-regarded secondary school in Darlington is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join their successful department on a maternity cover basis from April 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to inspire students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them develop strong literacy skills, critical thinking, and a love for literature.
Role Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver engaging English lessons in line with the national curriculum
* Teach across KS3 and KS4, including both Language and Literature
* Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and confidence
* Differentiate lessons to support students of varying abilities
* Monitor and assess student progress, providing clear and constructive feedback
* Prepare students for assessments and GCSE examinations
* Contribute to departmental planning and resource development
* Support enrichment activities such as reading programmes or extracurricular clubs
Requirements
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
* Experience teaching English at KS3-KS4
* Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature
* Excellent classroom management and communication skills
* A genuine passion for teaching and inspiring young people
