Salary range - £95K - £110K + Company benefits
My client is a fintech business founded in the UK & now operating globally. After 8yrs of trading behind them & hitting profitability a few years back – Its an exciting time to join the business with focus on scale, customer acquisition and continuous product improvement
They have a unique accounting tech platform allowing SME & Mid Market businesses to ‘ grow fearlessly’ with no worry around credit control, cash flow management & accounting as it can all be automated through their software.
2026 is an exciting time for the company as they have found strong product market fit, 2025 brought large acquisition of mid market customers internationally & the product roadmap is strong with 3 new products and potential partnership integrations for H2.
We are therefore looking for a commercial head of engineering who can confidently utilise their technical ability to coach & lead the engineering team to enable my client to succeed with commercial goals. Its key we bring on a individual who is a strong stakeholder manager, enjoys working in an inclusive working environment where the whole business is 1 team driving towards same goals & is a motivational leader for our 8 engineers.
After trading for 8yrs, there is some existing policies & procedures in place which we are looking for development on. It would be brilliant for the candidate to build new processes, identify gaps in our current frameworks and really set us up for the growth we are expecting to see.
Role responsibilities:
The Head of Engineering remit extends across software development, data management, information security, intellectual property, cost management, and technology innovation – Some key points below:
* Define and maintain technical strategy and roadmap, aligned to the company’s product vision and commercial priorities
* Design integration frameworks to support multiple accounting, payment systems and other third-party tools.
* Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team, providing direction and clarity on priorities
* Define and maintain measurable KPIs for the engineering and technology function
* Implement agile methodologies to ensure predictable delivery and continuous improvement
* Actively contribute to coding, infrastructure configuration, and troubleshooting when required
* Own the end-to-end data strategy, including architecture, governance, and quality control.
* Own and manage the engineering and infrastructure budget.
* Track engineering cost of sales and align spend with revenue and profitability goals.
* Own and protect intellectual property, including source code, proprietary logic, data models, and integrations.
* Lead the technology innovation agenda — identifying, evaluating, and implementing emerging technologies that enhance product capability and efficiency.
* Explore opportunities in AI, machine learning, data science, and automation to improve debtor intelligence, forecasting accuracy, and workflow automation.
* Collaborate with the CEO and Head of Product to align technical execution with strategic priorities.
Requirements:
* Deep full stack technical experience – Node.js / React / An asset
* Prior experience in a start up and scale up environment & can confidently provide examples how they have scaled a tech / engineering function to enable commercial growth
* Prior experience managing and coaching a growing team of engineers whilst playing hands on role in the day to day
* Strong stakeholder management experience & holds believe engineering teams should be integrated with the wider business in particular product & sales
* Prior integrations experience – ideally within the accounting or fintech domain
* Experience in AI agentic and automation
