Overview
Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) in educational settings. You will be at the heart of early intervention, working in schools and colleges to support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs. You will be guided by expert clinical supervision and rooted in evidence-based practice, delivering one-to-one and group interventions, carrying out assessments, and supporting schools to strengthen their Whole School Approach to mental health. You will work with families, school staff and other professionals to co-create effective, personalised support.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated professional passionate about supporting the mental health and well-being of children and young people. With a qualification as an Education Mental Health Practitioner you bring a strong foundation to the role.
* Deliver one-to-one and group interventions; conduct assessments; support schools to strengthen their Whole School Approach to mental health.
* Collaborate with families, school staff and other professionals to co-create personalised support that meets each young person’s needs.

Person specification
Essential
* Be a suitably qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner
* Knowledge of safeguarding, capacity and consent issues including Gillick competence
* Experience of working with children and young people in educational or healthcare settings
* Experience of delivering therapeutic interventions to children and families (e.g., CBT, solution-focused brief therapy)
* Strong communication skills for collaboration with families, schools and multi-agency teams
* Ability to conduct assessments, manage risk, and maintain clear records
* Willingness to promote mental health awareness within educational settings
* Ongoing commitment to professional development
Desirable
* Teaching qualification; Youth Mental Health First Aid trained
* Knowledge of the operation of Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing services
* Experience of monitoring and recording outcome measures for children’s emotional wellbeing
* Experience of working with looked after children or other vulnerable groups
Additional Criteria
* Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic mental health interventions with children and with families
* Ability to work within educational settings to increase mental health awareness among staff
* Ability to conduct mental health assessments of children and young people; ability to assess and communicate risk; take action to mitigate risk
* Excellent oral and written communication; time management and organisational skills
* Access to own transport or ability to commute between community venues
* Willingness to maintain registration in core profession; willingness to study further if required
