CNC Setter / Operator – 3 & 5 Axis Mills (Heidenhain & Haas Control)

Machina Engineering Ltd is a precision engineering and Tier 1 manufacturing supplier specialising in highly automated 3, 4, and 5-axis simultaneous machining. Located in Thirsk, next to Thirsk station, the company offers streamlined services by performing both complex machining and in-house surface treatments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC milling machines, producing high-precision components for projects across automotive, aerospace, defence, motorsport and more.
The candidate will be working on state-of-the-art, fully automated Hermle 5-axis machining centres and Haas CNC mills, supporting production in a fast-paced environment with pallet pool automation and high-end workholding systems.
This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced automation-ready equipment, modern workholding solutions, and complex precision components while developing your machining skills alongside an experienced engineering team.
Responsibilities
* Set and operate CNC milling machines (Hermle 5-axis & Haas) to produce precision components
* Work with Zoller tooling pre-setters and heat shrink to pre-load tools directly into machine tool carousels
* Prepare machines and pallet pools for production from engineering drawings, setup sheets, and tooling lists
* Load and set cutting tools, fixtures, and materials to ensure accurate setups
* Work with Lang Technik workholding systems, including centric vices, quick-point systems, and modular fixtures
* Set up and manage pallet pool automation systems for efficient multi-job production
* Make basic program edits at the machine using Heidenhain control when required
* Monitor machining operations and make offset adjustments to maintain tight tolerances
* Perform in-process inspection and quality checks using appropriate measuring tools
* Ensure machines run reliably and efficiently during production cycles
* Maintain clean work areas, organised tooling, and accurate job documentation
* Assist programmers and engineers with process improvements and troubleshooting
Desired Skills & Experience
* Experience setting and operating CNC milling machines
* Familiarity with Heidenhain control systems
* Experience with Hermle, Haas, or similar CNC machining centres
* Experience with a range of different workholding solutions
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
* Understanding of cutting tools, materials, and machining processes
* Experience using inspection tools such as micrometres, verniers, and gauges
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality precision components
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
