CNC Lathe Turner Programmer/Setter/Operator - Weekend Shift
We are looking for a skilled CNC Lathe Turner Programmer/Setter/Operator to join our team at Gibbs Gears in Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury. This is a full‑time, contract role with a competitive hourly rate of £24.50 – £29.50, plus benefits. Shift times are Saturday 12:00 – 22:00, Sunday 08:00 – 16:00, and Friday 14:00 – 00:00.

Gibbs Gears is a rapidly expanding precision engineering company specialising in high‑quality gears, shafts, transmissions, and complex CNC machined components for the aerospace, motorsport and advanced technology sectors.
Role Overview
You will work with multi‑axis CNC lathes and machining centres, including the Nakamura JX200, WY150, Doosan Puma and Lynx machines. Your responsibilities include programming, setting and operating advanced 3‑ and 5‑axis CNC machines using G‑code/M‑code and offline tools such as SolidCAM, EdgeCAM and Vericut.
Key Responsibilities
* Program, set and operate multi‑axis CNC lathes to deliver precise, high‑quality components.
* Utilise CAD/CAM software (SolidCAM, EdgeCAM, Vericut) for offline programming.
* Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and GD&T specifications.
* Perform tooling setup, calibration and routine maintenance on CNC machines.
* Use precision instruments (micrometres, verniers, height gauges) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
* Implement one‑hit machining methods to enhance productivity.
* Operate and manage robotic systems, including bar feed and robot loading/unloading.
* Collaborate with engineering teams to refine machining strategies and reduce cycle times.
* Ensure adherence to safety standards and company policies.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
* GCSEs in Math, English and Science (or equivalent).
* Proficiency in G‑code and M‑code programming.
* Experience with control systems such as Fanuc or NT Smart Pro.
* Strong skills in reading technical drawings, inspection and gauge usage.
Desirable Qualifications
* Certifications in CAD/CAM software (e.g. SolidCAM, Mastercam).
* Knowledge of advanced material properties such as aerospace alloys.
* CNC machining certifications or NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) accreditation.
