CAMHS Disability Service - Hackney Ark, Hom University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

We are delighted to offer a permanent opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join our well-established, passionate, and forward-thinking CAMHS Disability Service at the Hackney Ark. This is an exciting role which combines neurodevelopmental assessment for autism and ADHD for children with a moderate to severe learning disability; direct therapeutic intervention for children, young people, and their families affected by moderate to profound disability and wellbeing; and a mental health support role in a specialist school. The post includes being a regular member of the CAMHS single point of access (SPA) triage team and completing initial assessments to assign new referrals to clinical pathways within the CAMHS Disability Service.


About the Service

Within this, the CAMHS Disability Service is dedicated to children and young people (CYP) aged 0-18 with a wide range of needs delivered within the THIRVE conceptual framework; our 'Getting More Help' pathway is for CYP with moderate to profound disabilities and emotional/behavioural and mental health concerns, including neurodevelopmental conditions (Autism spectrum disorder ASD, Attention-Deficit /Hyperactivity Disorder ADHD and Learning Disability/ Intellectual Disability LD/ID), physical or complex sensory disabilities requiring specialist support.


Main duties of the job

This post is to contribute to established pathways of care: the neurodevelopmental assessment pathway for children and young people with a moderate to profound learning disability; the core CAMHS Disability Service intervention offer (specialist psychological therapy in the context of disability; Getting More Help level); the Wellbeing and Mental Health in Schools service within a specialist school setting

The role will include:

* Contributing to the ADHD and autism neurodevelopmental assessment pathways for children and young people with a moderate to profound learning disability.
* Delivering therapeutic intervention with children, families, and caregivers affected by disability -- including individual, group, and parent-support work.
* Contributing to the Wellbeing and Mental Health in Schools service by providing whole school support within a specialist school.
* Assessing risk and urgency as part of triaging new referrals within the single point of access to CAMHS system, helping to reach needs-based, best-fit allocation decisions alongside the SPA MDT.
* Completing initial assessments to inform a preliminary formulation and help reach needs-based, best fit allocation to pathways decisions with the CAMHS Disability MDT.

Person Specification


Education / Qualifications

* Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical or equivalent
* HCPC registration or equivalent


Desirable

* Relevant post-qualification training


Skills / Abilities

* High level communication and facilitation skills with regards to clients and professionals
* Skills in working with staff and clients from diverse ethnic communities in providing a culturally competent service
* Able to draw upon a broad theoretical knowledge base
* Ability to organise own workload within competing demands
* Competence in basic IT and keyboard skills
* Ability to work autonomously or collaboratively within a team and systems


Desirable

* Assessment and treatment skills in the area of ASD and complex development/disability presentations.

* Experience working with children and families and in a child development/ disability/ASD context.
* Experience of clinically supervising trainees or assistant psychologists
* Experience in Group Work
* Experience in a special school setting
* Collaborative MDT and/or multi agency working


Knowledge

* Knowledge of relevant legislation and national policy framework relating to the NHS/work with children and young people and their families
* A high level of knowledge of the factors affecting the psychological and social well-being of children and young people.
* Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues


Desirable

* Familiarity with a culture or ethnic group minority
* Knowledge of major ethnic language
* Specialist areas of knowledge e.g. ASD, physical disabilities. Knowledge of school's mental health policies and initiatives.
* Awareness of healthcare and social issues within inner city areas.
* Play based assessment
* Autism-specific assessment skills (e.g. 3Di, ADOS, Pegasus, CYGNET, Early Bird programmes)
