Job Description: Contracts Manager at NIHR
The IP Unit is responsible for drafting and maintaining contracts that fund NIHR research, supporting the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). Reporting to the Senior Contracts Manager, the Contracts Manager will assist in drafting new NIHR Infrastructure and Programme contracts, ensuring appropriate rights and risk management.
You will advise NIHR stakeholders on contract matters, especially intellectual property and commercialization, and ensure contractual provisions are correctly implemented in collaboration agreements. Additionally, you will keep the IP Unit informed on legislative and policy changes affecting NIHR.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide contractual advice on NIHR template agreements, charity co-funding agreements, and collaboration agreements.
2. Support the rollout of new contractual terms across centers.
3. Advise DHSC on NIHR templates, contract variations, and co-funding agreements.
4. Guide DHSC on contractual risks and implications in funding calls.
5. Stay updated on UK research funding policies and their impact on NIHR contracts.
6. Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and policies, providing briefings and presentations.
7. Assist the Senior Contracts Manager with new contract requests triage.
8. Coordinate with NIHR program teams to ensure proper contract procedures.
9. Develop best practices and guidance for the IP Unit and NIHR teams.
10. Advise on IP ownership and management issues in contracts.
Qualifications
* Experience with R&D contracts, including drafting and negotiating research agreements.
* Familiarity with the UK research funding landscape, gained in HEI, NHS, charity, or industry R&D sectors.
* Awareness of UK and international research policies.
* Knowledge of legislation affecting research contracts, such as subsidy control and UK GDPR.
* Familiarity with NIHR funding agreements (desirable).
* Experience in IP management and commercialization (desirable).
* Experience in training colleagues on contractual and IP matters (desirable).
