Senior Pharmacist, Addictions and Medicines Management

Are you an experienced mental health pharmacist with a passion for medicines optimisation and clinical pharmacy? The Trust is currently seeking to recruit a compassionate and motivated individual to work in the Addictions Service at the Prestwich site as a key member of the multidisciplinary team.

As an integral member of the clinical team, and alongside pharmacy colleagues, you'll address the pharmaceutical care needs of our services users.

In addition to your clinical role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to medicines management processes at local and trust level. There will be opportunities to lead on development of trust policies and in the education and training of GMMH staff

You will act as a role model for junior pharmacist and trainee pharmacists and will have the opportunity to line manage and act as a mentor.

You will have the opportunity to act as Designated Supervisor for trainee pharmacists.

As a senior member of the pharmacy team, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to broader Trust initiatives and priorities


Main duties of the job

The post provides an opportunity for the following: -

* pharmaceutical care planning and clinical review of prescriptions
* Involvement of service users in decisions about their medicines to optimise treatment, support adherence and improve outcomes
* Provision of specialist pharmaceutical advice to the multi-disciplinary team (MDT)
* Development of a non-medical prescribing role
* Provision of clinical supervision, professional leadership and line management to other members of the team
* Ensure appropriate governance arrangements are in place for the management of medicines, including the monitoring of prescribing and medicines use throughout GMMH
* Education and Training of GMMH staff including development of medication training days/learning packages
* Attendance at best practice groups and strategic trust meetings
* Actively working to contribute to and deliver the Trust medicines optimisation strategy

Job responsibilities

his post presents a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced pharmacist motivated by the desire to improve patient care to perform this key position within the Addictions MDT while also working on medication management and medicines optimisation at local and trust level.

The role demands an organised, flexible individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work on their own initiative.


Person Specification


Required for role

* Current Member of GPhC
* Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy
* Experience in Mental Health/Addictions Clinical Pharmacy
* Experience of Multidisciplinary Working
* Experience of Line Managing and Supervising Staff
* Experienceof delivering training to healthcare staff
* Experience of designing medicines management training for healthcare staff
* Experience of leadership role
* Experience of being a Designated Supervisor, Designated Prescribing Practitioner or Education Supervisor for Trainee Pharmacists


Required for role

* NMP qualification or working towards one
* Experience in Medicines Safety
