Secondment opportunity: ending 31st March 2027 hours per week

Grade: Progressional Post AFC Band 5 to 6

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated and proactive HCPC registered dietitian working within the Children and Young Peoples Service at South Tees.

We have a fixed term post to cover a secondment available within The South Tees Nutrition and Dietetic service. This is an ideal opportunity for a Band 5 with experience in paediatrics to further develop skills in this speciality of dietetics. Full training and clinical supervision will be provided by the members of the paediatric dietetic team.

Main duties of the job

The paediatric dietetic team work across the 3 localities (Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Hambleton and Richmondshire) served by South Tees NHS Trust. James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) in Middlesbrough is our central point where we will have team meetings and clinical update sessions.

This post will include clinical work at JCUH, the Friarage Hospital Northallerton, Catterick Integrated Care Centre, and other community locations such as schools, children centres and health centres across the locality.

The post is varied and involves working with a variety of patient groups including, children on home enteral feeds, oral nutritional support, behavioural eating difficulties and in patient eating disorders and diabetes. The weekly rota for this post may include MDT clinics, occasional home visits, ward sessions, feeding clinics in specialist schools, telephone clinics and general outpatient clinics.

Working within the paediatric diabetes and cystic fibrosis specialist teams is a key part to this role. The post is progressional to support the development of the dietetic knowledge and skills to work in these specialist areas.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary teams, with opportunities to work collaboratively with other health care professionals. You should have excellent communication skills and above all you must be passionate about working within dietetics using drive and innovation to make positive changes.

Knowledge & Skills (Band 6 criteria)

Essential criteria

1. Evidence of audit and participation in service development
2. Basic IT skills

Desirable criteria

3. Membership of: British Dietetic Association (BDA), BDA specialist groups and other relevant groups
4. Skills in the use of SystmOne or another electronic patient record

Qualifications & Training (Band 6 criteria)

Essential criteria

5. To hold a Degree in Dietetics or equivalent
6. To be registered as a Dietitian and fit to practice by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
7. To have achieved or willing to work towards relevant Post-graduate qualification
8. Clinical supervisory skills training

Knowledge & Skills (Band 5 criteria)

Essential criteria

9. Knowledge of relevant national guidelines and standards
10. Basic IT skills

Desirable criteria

11. Evidence of audit
12. Membership of: British Dietetic Association (BDA)

21. Experience of working with home enteral tube feeding in childrens services
