The post holder will work closely with the Head of Audiology to support the strategic, clinical and operational leadership of the Audiology department to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient centred care.
Main duties of the job
This role involves managing the day-to-day service delivery of the Audiology service as well as maintaining an advanced clinical role. The post holder will lead an effective team ensuring appropriate staff levels and rota management, supervision of junior staff and ongoing professional development.
The Deputy Head of Audiology plays a key role in service improvement especially in working towards IQIPS accreditation. There will be accountability for budgets and performance as well as line management responsibilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
·Deputise for Head of Department as required.
·Conduct testing of hearing and basic speech understanding in adults and children using testing techniques appropriate to the age and ability of the individual and compliant with national standards.
·Conduct fitting of hearing aids and other assistive devices for adults and children using techniques appropriate to the age and ability of the individual.
·Apply and promote evidence-based practice and use of relevant clinical protocols.
·Explanation of results to patients, which may involve dealing with emotional people. Communication methods should be adapted to ensure the patient and/or carer has optimal understanding, for example, by using recognised communication tactics for the hearing impaired.
·Provide specialist input to patients across the range of care pathways and health care settings.
·Provide appropriate clinical and scientific advice and interpretation of analytical results.
·Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and take a lead in organising departmental meetings.
·To undertake mandatory training and maintain own professional knowledge through continual professional development.
·Promote and support the continual professional development of the whole department including identifying and pursuing education and training needs.
·To maintain patient safety through rigorous and consistent compliance with Trust policies for the prevention and control of infection, including hand hygiene.
·Take a lead with audit and service development in the department including implementation of new protocols, equipment or test techniques.
·Through demand and capacity work predict changes in demand for future services and develop plans in conjunction with the Head of Department and Commissioners for the future delivery of Audiology services.
·Fully engage with the IQIPS process to ensure quality assurance of the service.
·Ensure line management arrangements for all staff to include: appraisals, sickness absence, capability, and departmental workload and allocation.
·Assist with recruitment and retention of all staff.
·In conjunction with the Head of Audiology manage the departmental budget including making appropriate decisions regarding product purchases and priorities considering cost pressures and cost improvements.
Any other reasonable duties as required by Head of Department.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. MSc in Audiology or equivalent
2. Registration with the AHCS as an Audiologist
3. Comprehensive experience in all aspects of adult and paediatric assessment
Desirable criteria
4. Registration as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC
5. Member of the BAA/BSA
6. Experience with Auditbase
