Offer description

The Business Analyst is the main source of financial support for the Institutes' Group Leaders. In addition, they will prepare and interpret the regular financial information which is presented to the various boards and committees of the Institute.

Financial Support for Project Leaders
• Build personal relationships with Group Leaders
• Assist Group Leaders to manage their financial resources by proactively forecasting future income and costs, highlighting where decisions may be necessary.
• Meet face to face with all Group Leaders each month to review their financial position

Financial Reporting
• Preparation of monthly management accounts for the Institutes with detailed and accurate financial information and interpretation.
• Preparation of Statutory Accounts

Budgetary control
• Preparation of forward projections, annual budgets and forecasts
• Preparation of 5 year business plans and reserves analysis
• Monitoring the financial performance of grants


Key Relationships

The Business Analyst is a customer facing role and the post-holder will need to build relationships and meet regularly with a number of Group Leaders and budget holders. The purpose of this is to support the Group Leaders in managing the financial resources available to them, whether this be through specific grant or general core funding.


Main Activities & Responsibilities

Percentage Provide financial support for Group Leaders and budget holders 25 Prepare monthly management accounts for the Institute 25 Prepare budgets, forecasts and business plans for the Institute 20 Monitor the financial performance of grants to ensure maximum benefit is obtained by the Group Leader 15 Preparation of Statutory Accounts for the Institute and subsidiaries 10 Ad-hoc financial investigation and analysis 5 As agreed with line manager, any other duties commensurate with the nature of the role


Person Profile


Education & Qualifications

Requirement Importance Part qualified accountant Essential Three A Levels grades A*-C, or equivalent Essential Qualified accountant Desirable


Specialist Knowledge & Skills

Requirement Importance Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Finance systems Essential Excellent computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, specifically Excel Essential

NBI Partnership

The NBI Partnership provides non-scientific services to the John Innes Centre (JIC), Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), Earlham Institute (EI) and The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL). All of these organisations carry out scientific research funded by the UK Government, European Union, Charitable and Industrial Sponsors. The Partnership employs around 140 staff to cater for the needs of approximately 1100 Research Staff, Students and Visiting Scientists who are all located in close proximity on the Norwich Research Park.

The Norwich BioScience Institutes Partnership (NBIP) has an exciting opportunity for a Business Analyst to join their busy Finance department.

Background

The Finance department provides expert financial support to world-leading science institutes, including the John Innes Centre, The Sainsbury Laboratory, Quadram Institute Bioscience and the Earlham Institute.

The role:
The Business Analyst is the main source of financial support for Institute project leaders. The successful candidate will build excellent working relationships with the Group Leaders and help them to manage their financial resources effectively and proactively.

The Business Analyst will prepare budgets, forecasts and business plans. They will prepare monthly management accounts and monitor the financial performance of grants to ensure maximum benefit is obtained.

They will also prepare the Statutory Accounts and manage the annual audit.

The ideal candidate:
Candidates should be a part or fully qualified accountant. Experience of producing budgets, business plans and detailed management accounts is essential. Candidates should possess a strong customer focus and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional information:
Salary on appointment will be within the range £36,000 - £39,750per annum (pro-rata) depending on qualifications and experience. This post is part-time (0.8 FTE) and permanent.
