What will I be doing as a Manufacturing Technician (Extrusion) Apprentice?

This role offers the opportunity to learn machinery operation, production processes, and quality control in a high‑volume manufacturing environment. You will assist with the operation of production equipment, ensure safety, and maintain product quality while adhering to company standards.

* Operating production equipment and monitoring processes to meet quality and output targets.
* Performing quality checks and recording batch output in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Assisting with basic maintenance and reporting faults or issues to the team leader.
* Managing packaging, stock control, and warehouse operations.
* Adhering to health and safety policies, ensuring a clean and safe work environment.
* Mentoring new team members and working closely with the production team.

What is Extrusion?

Extrusion is a manufacturing process where material is pushed through a shaped opening (called a die) to create long products with a consistent cross‑section. It is used to make items such as plastic pipes, window frames, tubing, cable insulation, and even pasta.

What could the future look like?

There’s no limit to what you can achieve while working with Thermoseal Group. You have the potential to secure a full‑time position with the business at the end of your apprenticeship. Through practical on‑the‑job training you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a competent Extrusion Technician, with opportunities for specialised technical roles or leadership positions.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience – About You

* A willingness to learn about how equipment works.
* Basic knowledge or willingness to learn Health and Safety regulations in a manufacturing setting.
* Willingness to take on various tasks to help ensure everything runs smoothly in the factory.
* Basic computer skills for keeping track of records and information.
* Self‑motivation to work independently and as part of a team, ensuring products are made to the right standards.
* Flexibility to work rotational hours and take on different roles as needed.
* Good timekeeping, organisation, and time management.
* A customer‑focused attitude, being polite and professional to everyone.
* Teamwork and taking pride in your work.
* A friendly, respectful attitude to people of all backgrounds.
* Honesty and a strong work ethic.

Please note, due to the nature of the role, candidates must be aged 18+.

Experience

While previous experience is great, we’re not just interested in experience and qualifications; we’re looking for someone with the right attitude and aptitude to fit right in at Thermoseal Group.

Qualifications

It’s about enthusiasm, not school results. In our experience the most successful apprentices are those who are driven to find out more about the sector, can be up front about what they do and don’t already know, are considerate, self‑reflective, and impatient to learn the job role!

So how does the apprenticeship work?

Over 24 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week to ‘off‑the‑job’ training, including theory (e.g., virtual lessons & online learning) and practical training (e.g., shadowing, mentoring & time spent writing assignments). This counts towards a Level 3 Polymer Processing Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro and an experienced mentor at Thermoseal Group, ensuring you develop the skills, knowledge and work habits needed for your career.

You’ll be earning a salary while you gain your qualifications, meaning no huge student loans to pay back at the end of the programme.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this apprenticeship you must:

* Be over 18, not in full‑time education, have lived in the UK for 3 years and have the right to work in the UK.
* Be a UK resident and have the right to work in the UK.
* Have a Level 3, a degree or an equivalent higher‑level qualification in a closely related field, or possess substantial relevant experience. (If you already hold one of these, you may not be eligible for apprenticeship funding).
* Be unable to secure apprenticeship funding if you already hold a Level 3 or higher‑level qualification.

If you don’t quite meet these minimum requirements yet, let us know you’re interested and we’ll get in touch to discuss this further with you.
