Head of Clinical Quality and Patient Safety (Operational)
ROLE SUMMARY
The post holder will provide strategic input to Newmedicas leadership team, ensuring clinical quality considerations are embedded into the business's overarching strategy and objectives. They will lead their team and the wider organization to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-focused care in line with regulatory standards. Responsibilities include leading specific work programmes such as the Patient Safety Strategy, safeguarding adults and children, IPC, Consent, and professional practice for Nurses, Pharmacists, and ODPs.
The post holder will develop and implement these programmes to enhance quality improvement and patient safety across NMSL. They will support and advise on system-wide patient safety management, oversee investigations, and ensure timely responses to complaints. Acting as the organizational statutory lead for consent and Mental Capacity, they will deputize for the Clinical Quality & Governance Director at key meetings and committees.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Patient Safety: Lead safeguarding for adults, children, and mental capacity; implement systems and processes including training; develop patient safety programmes; act as Patient Safety Specialist; lead incident processes and investigations; disseminate learning.
* Clinical: Lead nurses and ODPs forums; support innovative ophthalmic pathways; develop nurses and ODPs to meet standards.
* Regulatory: Safeguarding Lead; inform learning and development; support CQC inspections; coordinate with ICB Quality Leads; streamline quality contracts; advise on contract quality elements.
* Assurance & Audit: Ensure compliance with standards; lead clinical audits; develop assurance methodologies; monitor action plans; analyze data for decision-making.
* Leadership & Management: Lead and manage governance and clinical teams; provide leadership and influence; develop patient safety training; support career progression.
* Incident Reporting: Ensure NHS compliance; collaborate on incident investigations; follow up on action plans.
* Reporting & Communication: Report to regulators; produce governance reports; develop training; produce safeguarding and IPC reports.
* Committee Membership: Participate in Clinical Governance and Learning & Improvement sub-committees.
