 
        
        We welcome enthusiastic and highly motivated optometrists with an interest in paediatrics to apply for the opportunity to be part of the Orthoptic team within Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post will commence as soon as possible. Now is an exciting time to join our team as the Ophthalmology Department is relocating in November 2025 to a brand-new purpose-built clinic within the Alhambra Shopping Centre in Barnsley town centre as part of a Health on the High Street initiative.
This essential role will involve refraction, and fundus & media checks on a predominantly paediatric caseload. You will work closely with the Orthoptists and Paediatric Ophthalmologists.
The post is required to cover clinics ideally Wednesday and Thursday but the days could be negotiable to include Wednesday.

Experience
 * Experience in paediatric assessments with and without cycloplegia
 * Independent prescriber certificate

Qualifications
 * BSc (Hons) Optometry or equivalent
 * Registered with the GOC
Knowledge and Awareness
 * LogMAR acuity measurement.
 * Paediatric optometric assessment
 * Awareness of the significance to own practice of the following issues:
 * Health and Safety
 * Confidentiality and Data Protection
 * Child protection
 * Clinical governance
 * Understanding of the significance of NHS/Trust policies and procedures
 * Understanding of basic orthoptic principles and practice
