Role Overview The Vehicle Line Manager is the department ‘mini Chief’ for that carline. Responsible for the cradle to grave delivery of all programmes & product actions within a carline including time, quality & cost. The VLM matrix reports into the carline Chief Product Engineer (CPE) and directly reports into the function. Job Purpose Represents the PMT and its SETS in the vehicle project (PST) and is accountable for all aspects of programme delivery to quality, cost and time. Develop SET team targets from the vehicle programme targets for cost and Attributes etc. Be the driving force to deliver to these targets whilst balancing them across the department as the programme matures. Work in close partnership with the SET leaders to develop the system and component delivery plans. Key duties and responsibilities Indirectly lead the PMT / SET teams activities to resolve issues and decision making to ensure the best balance of cost, quality, and delivery. Responsible for programme deliverable status at gateways and monthly executive reviews. Set and cascade PMTs system level targets to SET teams and ensure these align to whole vehicle level targets. Own, track and manage the budget allocated to your department. Manage platform and model variants cost including forecast and status. Manage the risks and opportunities for both investment and material cost. Own the calendarisation of investment forecast and tracking for your department. Lead any outsourcing within your PMT which directly supports your vehicle project and ensure cross-functional support is in place (e.g. Procurement, Programme, Quality etc.) Develop high-level commodity plans in response to SEL (Strategic Evaluation Letter) and to support construction of VPP (Vehicle Programme Plan) to the Product Creation Process methodology. Lead commodity progression tracking and escalation to ensure all commodity plans are aligned to programme requirements. Support the Programme team with data to prepare reports as necessary in line with Programme governance requirements. Adopt a proactive mentally to continually monitor the risk to your commodities to ensure robust delivery to programme targets. Using Engineering first principles and the practical problem-solving methodology, support the technical issue resolution for all issues arising throughout the lifetime of the product working to the Aston Martin standards for response. An ability to drive towards technical solutions in domains that you aren’t a subject matter expert, using engineering first principles. Lead cross- functional teams to solve complex quality issues impacting multiple areas of the business. Drive lessons learnt throughout the department to drive prevention vs. detection using robust standards. Experience and Qualifications Essential experience Proven experience in relevant subfunction Significant experience in project / commodity management experience within automotive engineering / product development Experience in project delivery from concept to series production Experience of leadership of cross-functional teams to deliver to quality, cost and delivery targets Proven experience in the delivery of Automotive/Motorsport components and systems First-hand experience of working on modern automotive/motorsport vehicles Broad understanding of engineering theory and principles of mechanical, electrical and software systems Preferred experience Working knowledge of AMPCS / MISSION or similar Product Creation Process Knowledge of Siemens TeamCenter PLM Systems. DFMEA/PFMEA systems Requirements & DVP management Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Project planning tool or similar project planning software Essential education/ qualifications Engineering degree (or equivalent) Preferred Education/ Qualifications Engineering/Technology degree (or equivalent) MBA BSc/MSc in Project Management Required skills/ Behaviours Possesses high levels of grit and resilience Able to work effectively under high stress Positive, forward thinking can-do attitude with a solution to every problem Experience at working to strict time schedules and holding others to account Able to influence others even when direct reporting lines are not present Creative, entrepreneurial and courageous to support delivery of aggressive company targets Able to present information in a concise manner up to an executive level to lead teams to a clear conclusion Hiring manager - Michele Contrino Grade - M Positions - One Applications from employees currently at risk of redundancy will be given priority in line with our redeployment policy Additional requirements Required to work on-site 5 days a week.
