What We’re Looking For
We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward‑thinking Consultant Psychiatrist eager to lead clinical work alongside an experienced Consultant Nurse. You will be part of a developing cross‑agency, cross‑team response to evolving mental health needs.
Main Duties
The Moorland View Ward is a vital part of the Urgent and Inpatient Care system in North Devon. You will collaborate with Home Treatment Team, alternative‑to‑admission beds, and the intensive inpatient rehabilitation ward to provide a local, flexible response for North Devon’s most mentally unwell residents.
Collaborative Network
We pride ourselves on strong working relationships with Psychiatric Liaison, the Approved Mental Health Professional service, and adjacent wards for older persons and rehabilitation. Senior clinicians join a supportive peer group, attend weekly academic programmes, and have opportunities to extend teaching and supervision experience.

* 16‑Bed Mixed‑Gender Ward – all bedrooms are en‑suite.
* Beautiful Garden – the ward encircles a serene garden.
* Comprehensive amenities – office space, MDT office, music room, dining room, gym, Occupational Therapy Kitchen, patient kitchen and future occupational therapy garden/growing space.
* Adjacent Facilities – seclusion area, long‑term segregation area (en‑suite bedroom, lounge, enclosed garden), additional garden space, arts room.

Person Specification
Essential Experience
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
* Wide clinical experience in adult, older adult psychiatry.
* Experience of audit and understanding of clinical governance principles.
Desirable Experience
* Proven commitment to improving clinical care quality.
* Experience in inpatient psychiatry.
Essential Qualifications
* MBBS (or equivalent).
* Registration with the GMC and a licence to practice.
* MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligible for inclusion, or included within 6 months of CCT. (Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.)
* Approved Clinician status.
Desirable Qualifications
* Possess a CCT (or equivalent) in adult psychiatry.
* Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
* Training in educational supervision.
* Training in appraisal.
Essential Aptitudes
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to exercise leadership in a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Ability to work collaboratively with other clinical teams.
Desirable Aptitudes
* Evidence of new ideas in service delivery.
