Location: Bradford/ Leeds - Hybrid Working (a mix of office, site and home working)
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday between the working window of 8:00am-6:00pm.
We have an exciting opportunity for an ESOS & Flexibility Services Specialist to join the Energy Team within the wider Commercial Services team at Yorkshire Water.

The Energy team play a key role in the company's energy needs and costs. Yorkshire Water operates 4,200 sites across Yorkshire at approx. £110m per annum energy costs, they are a significant proportion of the company's Opex. Therefore, being able to improve the energy efficiency of our site operations is an important aspect of our new energy strategy. Yorkshire Water also generates a significant proportion of site consumption from renewable assets and plans to double this by 2030.
Where you fit in -
You will be responsible for Yorkshire Water's ESOS Compliance (Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme) and developing opportunities in the area of Flexibility Services. You will use your understanding of energy efficiency practise and water industry engineering knowledge, to work with site operational colleagues to perform site assessments and produce all reports necessary for ESOS compliance.
This role offers the opportunity to develop the area of Flexibility Services identified by our energy strategy. With our ongoing investment in renewable generation and existing sites featuring multiple sources of generation and export, the business is looking to leverage our assets and develop revenue streams from government incentives and third party collaborations.
Some of the key responsibilities include the following -
Maintain ESOS compliance for Yorkshire Water including ESOS Assessments, required energy audits and evidence packs
Produce action plan and annual progress updates using third party support where necessary
Undertake site surveys and develop ESOS standard energy reports for approval by Yorkshire Water Lead Assessor
Be the interface between the Energy Team and the Energy Optimisation Team that has the remit to deliver the Energy Efficiency Optimisation (EEO) programme element of the Energy Strategy
Utilise and manipulate data to provide support for business case development and to determine performance benefits of deployed energy efficiency works
Identify and deliver flexibility service opportunities identified by the Energy Strategy in the areas of grid services and capacity management
What skills and qualifications you will need:
Significant experience working in the water, waste water or similar processing industries, or in an industrial consultancy role.
Work experience within the energy and utilities industry
Science or Engineering degree (preferred), Membership of relevant institute (IET, EI) (preferred)
ESOS Lead assessor preferred though not essential
Experience of energy regulatory processes and working with energy suppliers, meter operators, DNO's
Experience of renewable operations and industry charging mechanisms
Excellent IT skills, proficient in all MS Office Applications, especially Excel
Desirable experience in control systems e.g. SCADA and OSI PI
Project management experience and experience of using project management tools
Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage and organise heavy workloads, prioritising relevant business needs. Good attention to detail.
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to understand and liaise with others, this could be colleagues, managers and external contractors
Able to be resilient under pressure and is self-reliant with a personal drive for continuous development, demonstrating a strong customer service ethos
The role will involve travel to different sites across Yorkshire, therefore you will need a UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 1-2 days in the office per week, plus site visits. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
