About the Role
The Associate Managing Editor will be responsible for maintaining an efficient and ethical peer review process for the high-impact, broad-scope open access journal PNAS Nexus. PNAS Nexus is the sibling journal to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and is published by OUP on behalf of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). Under the guidance of the NAS Managing Editor, you will uphold editorial office best practice and ensure that journal articles are published in a smooth and timely manner and to the highest standard. You will also provide excellent operational support and customer service for the journal’s editors and authors.
Duties will include:
* Oversee the editorial process for PNAS Nexus manuscripts, ensuring smooth progression from submission to production.
* Monitor journal inboxes and submission systems, responding to queries promptly and maintaining accurate records.
* Support ethical investigations in collaboration with the NAS Managing Editor and OUP staff, following COPE guidelines.
* Assist editors by inviting and tracking referees, sending reminders, and ensuring timely reviews.
* Work with the NAS Managing Editor to refine submission systems, ensuring editors are trained and updates are implemented effectively.
* Troubleshoot and enhance editorial workflows and policies to improve user experience and efficiency.
* Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures, including training materials for staff and editors.
* Liaise with OUP production teams and suppliers to ensure seamless communication and journal operations.
* Compile and present data for editorial board meetings while assisting with special projects.
* Prepare reports on submission volume, acceptance rates, and KPIs, tracking editorial performance and stakeholder communications.

* Prior experience utilizing online submission systems, especially eJournalPress (EJP), preferred.
* Prior experience working in scientific publishing or in a related industry preferred.
