Cons. Non-Malignant Haematologist with special interest in red cells
The haematology team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our friendly and forward‑thinking service. The successful candidate will have an interest in non‑malignant haematology; red cells and general haematology are essential requirements but there is flexibility in the remainder of the job plan based on the specific interest of the successful candidate.
Main Duties
Our team provides a specialist haemoglobinopathy service for patients in Nottinghamshire in collaboration with the East Midlands Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Network. We are supported by 2 paediatric haematologists, 4 specialist nurses and our local haemoglobinopathy coordinating centres for sickle cell and thalassaemia in Leicester and Birmingham respectively. The general haematology service covers a wide range of diagnoses including immune haematology and myeloproliferative diseases and also receives specialist nursing support. NUH became a regional centre for the management of TTP in November 2021, forming the East Midlands TTP Network with the University Hospitals of Leicester. Patients from across the region are referred into Nottingham for management and the post holder will provide on‑call cover for this service.
About Us
Queen’s Medical Centre Campus hosts the specialist Nottingham Haemostasis and Thrombosis services which includes the Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia. There is a busy liaison service for haemostasis and thrombosis across both trusts and the H&T clinical teams supervise the nurse‑led anticoagulation and DVT follow‑up services. The team is supported by the Nottingham Haemostasis and Thrombosis Reference Laboratory which is based on site.

Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide senior support for the non‑malignant clinical and laboratory services and attend clinics in red cells and general haematology. There is flexibility in the job plan to undertake further clinical work in a related area of non‑malignant haematology, depending on the interest of the candidate. Inpatient attending is on an alternate month basis, shared with and supported by the consultant team. The role can incorporate undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, educational supervision, research, leadership roles within the specialty, depending on the interest of the individual.
Person Specification
Professional Registration / Qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
* UK trained applicants must also hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Interest and experience in non‑malignant haematology including red cells
