About this Opportunity
The Work Week Planner is a key position within Cumberland Council’s Highways Delivery Service, responsible for the forward programming, planning, and coordination of highway maintenance and improvement works across the county. The Delivery Service includes the Council’s in‑house contractor delivering the Council’s highways maintenance, improvement projects, and winter service with an annual programme worth approximately £60 million. This role ensures that operational teams have clear, achievable work packages including all schedules, resources, and materials to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant standards and legislation.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain weekly work plans and packages for multiple operational teams.
* Coordinate resources, including labour, plant, and materials, to meet delivery targets.
* Liaise with Highway Engineers and Supervisors to ensure accurate scheduling and prioritisation of works.
* Monitor progress and update planning systems to reflect changes in scope or priorities.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and the Council’s permitting scheme.
* Provide cost estimates and work packages for both internal and external clients.
* Support emergency and winter service planning, including participation in out‑of‑hours duty rotas.
* Maintain accurate records of work schedules, costs, and performance metrics.
* Provide reports on KPIs such as defect repair times, permitting compliance, and cost versus estimate.
