Job Purpose
We have an exciting opportunity within the Proactive Conditioning team in South Manchester to be instrumental in delivering a programme of proactive mains cleaning and cyclic maintenance. You'll be active in proactive and cyclic work (planned work) – excluding reactive (in day event work). Being a dedicated resource to focus on delivering a more agile and proactive approach to mains cleaning that includes all mains materials, including training to use new innovative methods of mains Cleaning, if required. You'll provide an agile response to alleviate any developing discolouration issues and to resolve issues for the customer today and minimising further customer impact. You'll be supporting the local asset owners within a predefined geographical area in the delivery of the Distribution Operations Maintenance Strategy (DOMS): Mains conditioning and service conditioning Water Distribution Mains. You'll need to flex geographically dependent on where the work is identified within your predefined hub.
What You Will Be Doing:
* You'll be responsible for three core activities: proactive mains conditioning, cyclic flushing and cleaning and service cleaning.
* You'll also be responsible for increased proactive mains cleaning via the Network Scada system and the DOMS+ Tier 1 process and taking part in increased cyclical maintenance activities including targeted removal of deposition in low flow zones.
You will also be responsible for:
* Maintain and manage network instrumentation, loggers, PODDS methodology and service‑clean technologies, ensuring accurate data capture and timely customer communication.
* Analyse water quality data, undertake risk assessments and investigations, and take appropriate operational actions, including valve operations and targeted conditioning work.
* Deliver mains cleaning, flushing and cyclic maintenance programmes—both planned and post‑event—to prevent discolouration, sediment build‑up and other water quality issues.
* Enable asset optimisation and improvement by addressing low‑velocity zones, dead‑ends, strategic refresh points and using hydraulic modelling and turbidity monitoring as needed.
* Oversee contractor work authorisation, ensure sign‑off on third‑party activities, and support continuous improvement of network performance and customer experience.
What We Are Looking For:
* To be considered for this role you'll need to have reached an educational standard of GCSE grade C or equivalent, relevant City and Guilds or BTEC or ability to demonstrate technical and customer skills.
* You'll need to be able to demonstrate water network technical experience and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
You'll also need:
* Effective influencing and negotiation skills.
* Customer service experience, demonstrating a strong customer service focus and be able to resolve customer issues.
* Ability to work alone as well as effectively as part of a team
* A good level of competency in the use of relevant IT packages.
* The ability to provide technical/performance input into the DOMS process as required
