Job description
Our client, a prominent organisation in the marine industry, is currently recruiting for a Principal Naval Architect specialising in weights to join their team. This permanent role offers hybrid and flexible working opportunities across various locations, including Barrow-In-Furness, Brough, Filton, Frimley, Manchester, Portsmouth, and Weymouth.
Key Responsibilities:
3. Lead the collation strategy for mass properties data to deliver weight and centroid control on multi-billion-pound submarine programmes
4. Aggregate weight and centroid reports, present status to the Chief Naval Architect, and generate mitigation plans
5. Define and manage the mass budgets for submarine programmes and their breakdown to system level
6. Support submarine sea trials
7. Create and maintain a comprehensive database of parts mass properties
8. Promote a culture of weight control, working with system engineering to integrate weight as a fundamental design constraint
9. Conduct R&D activities, promoting the organisation's interests at UK and International Conferences
10. Perform conceptual parametric estimations for mass distributions and moments of inertia
11. Provide Subject Matter Expert reviews of weight control methodologies for non-submarine programmes
Job Requirements:
12. Experience in naval architecture and weight management
13. Degree qualified in an Engineering or Mathematics subject, or equivalent experience
14. Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership
15. Experience of weight control on large programmes
16. Experience working with large, complex electrical or mechanical systems
17. Familiarity with using VBA or Python to automate data manipulation tasks
18. Experience using CAD packages and programmes
19. Chartered Engineer status or ability to achieve within a year is desirable
