Main Duties
* Assist the Head of Year (HOY) in ensuring mentors effectively follow up on students' absences during mentor time.
* Manage, report, and address safeguarding issues in collaboration with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
* Promptly inform the DSL of any safeguarding concerns and help formulate a coordinated response under their guidance.
* Assist with keeping child protection records up-to-date for students worked with.
* Attend child protection meetings as required and agreed upon with the DSL for level 1 and 2 students.
* Undertake safeguarding responsibilities consistent with the role of a Deputy DSL as instructed by the DSL for level 1 and 2 students.
* Maintain and establish high standards according to the Academy’s ethos and expectations.
* Strive to ensure students receive a quality and enriching experience.
* Promote effective communication within the school and between the school and students' homes.
* Provide assistance to mentors and teaching staff as needed.
* Conduct investigations into incidents, collect statements, and report findings to the Year Leader.
* Reach out to parents to discuss incidents and arrange necessary meetings.
* Offer guidance and advice to students.
* Visit and support specific students in their classrooms.
* Communicate effective student-specific strategies with staff members.
* Assist in implementing disciplinary actions, such as organising detentions.
* Assist with the maintenance of records of support provided to students, including Student Support documents and Additional Needs plans.
* Engage with external agencies and assist with the preparation of required reports.
* Handle various administrative duties like filing and data management in the process of carrying out your role.
* Aid the Head of Year in organising events like Parents’ Evenings and Information Evenings.
* Participate in training courses and INSET sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
* Engage in the Academy’s regular pattern of meetings.
* Perform duties as directed by the Headteacher.
General
* Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the Academy
* To take part in training activities offered to further professional knowledge and development
* Committed to the safeguarding of children and the promotion of their welfare within the Academy
* To carry out the above duties in accordance with the Academy's policies
* To perform such other tasks as may reasonably be required by SLT, appropriate to the grading of the post
* The post holder should be aware of and comply with all Academy policies and procedures relating to child protection, health & safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
