Supporting services that make a difference to our communities

Our corporate property portfolio plays a vital role in enabling services to operate effectively and in supporting communities across Gateshead.

As a Senior Corporate Asset Officer, you will help ensure that our assets are used efficiently, sustainably and in line with corporate priorities. You’ll support strategic decision‑making, coordinate key processes such as Community Asset Transfer (CAT), and help deliver projects arising from the Council’s Corporate Asset Strategy and Management Plan.

Working across services and with partners, you will ensure property decisions are evidence‑based, transparent and aligned with organisational priorities.


What You Will Get To Do

* Support delivery of the Corporate Asset Strategy and associated action plans, ensuring property decisions align with service needs, community priorities and wider corporate objectives
* Lead or coordinate strategic property projects, working across services to drive delivery, manage change and expectations and ensure alignment with corporate priorities
* Contribute to and coordinate property reviews to assess whether assets are required, fit for purpose, cost‑effective and aligned with current and future service needs
* Identify underused or surplus assets and develop option appraisals to support evidence‑based decision making
* Support the development and implementation of property policies, processes and guidance to ensure consistent and effective service delivery
* Lead and coordinate the Community Asset Transfer (CAT) process, ensuring it is transparent, consistent and aligned with Council policy
* Act as a key point of contact for asset‑related enquiries, working with internal services, partners and community organisations to develop interests
* Work collaboratively with services to understand operational requirements, provide advice on property matters and support informed decision making
* Represent the service in internal and external meetings, building strong relationships and presenting reports where required


What You Will Bring

* Relevant qualification or equivalent experience Degree‑level qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. property, asset management, project management).
* Strategic asset management knowledge Understanding of strategic asset management principles, including the property lifecycle and key considerations such as leases and asset use.
* Public sector / asset environment experience Experience of working in a public sector or similar environment, ideally within property, estates or asset management.
* Stakeholder engagement and partnership working Experience of engaging and working with a range of stakeholders, including internal services, partners, and community/VCSE organisations, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
* Analysis and evidence‑based decision making Experience of analysing information and data to produce clear, evidence‑based recommendations to inform decision‑making.
* Project coordination and delivery Experience of delivering or coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders or service areas.
* Organisation, communication and delivery in a fast‑paced environment Strong organisational, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment. A proactive, solution‑focused approach and confidence using digital tools to support delivery and decision making.
* Policy and process development Experience of developing, interpreting or implementing policies, processes, guidance or procedures to support consistent and effective service delivery.
