PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION To operate CCTV equipment in the CCTV (Crime and Disorder) Control Room and to provide a professional, accurate, effective public CCTV monitoring service.
To assist outside agencies to reducing crime and the fear of crime in the area by providing CCTV data and facilitating the use of the control room by the Police.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1) To operate all CCTV equipment and cameras, complying with the Islington Council CCTV Code of practice.
2) To respond and action all CCTV requests including those from outside Agencies, the Police, Insurance Companies and Council departments.
3) To communicate with other departments, external agencies or the public in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
4) To operate Radio Communications and other supplied equipment. To liaise operationally with police and to co-ordinate a response to detected incidents.
5) To capture all CCTV recordings events and actions in a clear, legible, and accurate format and to record these onto the computer databases. To ensure daily and nightly occurrence logs are completed.
6) To produce detailed records or evidential material and maintain their continuity in a clear, legible, accurate format. This includes DVD management records, evidence records, and witness statements to a standard acceptable as evidence in a court of law.
7) To maintain personal integrity and confidentiality of all information obtained within the control room, at all times, whether written, verbal or by any other means.
8) To carry out equipment checks as required, to immediately inform all relevant personnel of all faults found and to carry out non-technical system maintenance as required ensuring that all faults are recorded.
9) To ensure the security of the control room and all equipment is maintained satisfactorily at all times, which includes access control of all visitors to the control room including times outside of the Councils normal office hours. To assist all visitors with their requests.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance) Qualified MinimumBTEC Level 2
Experience of working in Public Space CCTV control rooms
Experience of working in partnership with police and other agencies
Experience of Synectics and Vigilant CCTV systems
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITY Ability to Operate CCTV monitoring equipment and DVD recording system and comply with Standard Operating Procedures and CCTV Code of Practice
Ability to write concise accurate reports and statements
Ability to ensure continuity of exhibits and evidential material.
Proficient in the use of information technology to send, receive, access and store information, including the use of databases, and program's such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to operate radio systems
Knowledge of streets and places of interest in Islington Borough and surrounding area
Knowledge of criminal offences and categories
Ability to manage the compliance and smooth running of control room when directed by theCCTV Manager
Ability to work under pressure without supervision
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, partners and customers both verbally and in writing, including producing legal and statistical reports as required.
To present a professional and authoritative image/ presence
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with officers, other staff, senior officers, partners and members, and to use these to develop working practices and co-ordinate and improve service delivery.
