Advanced Speech and Language Therapist (Band 7)
Permanent position within the Main area of Speech And Language Therapy (SALT). Contract hours: 22.5 to 37.5 hours per week (full‑time or part‑time). Salary: £49,387 – £56,515 per annum pro‑rata. Location: Carleton Clinic, Carlisle.
Job Overview
The role is part of the Speech and Language Therapy Inpatient Team supporting working‑age adults and older people in mental health wards across Cumbria, Northumberland, Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland. The successful candidate will deliver evidence‑based assessment and intervention, share specialist knowledge, and provide clinical supervision and leadership within the multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, service users, carers and other professionals to deliver integrated communication and dysphagia support.
* Conduct high‑quality, evidence‑based assessments and provide treatment and rehabilitation, ensuring patient‑centred care.
* Support local teams in delivering effective therapy input and share specialist skills with colleagues and stakeholders.
* Work closely with the Clinical Lead to provide clinical supervision, support and leadership to team members.
* Engage in regular supervision, continuing professional development and clinical audit initiatives.
* Maintain accurate, contemporaneous record keeping and meet all documentation requirements.
Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Recognised SALT degree or equivalent, registered with HCPC.
* Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses/CPD to Masters level equivalence.
* Postgraduate level qualification relevant to area of specialism.
* Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
* Evidence of leadership development, such as attendance at a recognised leadership course.
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience working within a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Experience undertaking Joint Development Reviews.
* Commitment to partnership working across multi‑agency and multi‑disciplinary settings.
* Awareness of equal opportunities legislation and policies.
* Experience of providing clinical supervision and support to clinical staff.
* Proven ability to manage a clinical caseload flexibly as required.
