Are you passionate about making pets a priority? We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for animals to join Haygate Vets in Telford as a Veterinary Patient Care Assistant or Student Veterinary Nurse on a Fixed Term Contract until the end of June 2026. Start ASAP, with a variety of fixed shifts between now and June, approximately 7 shifts on and 14 off. This role is suitable for a SVN or Vet student to increase their knowledge and will involve working with an RVN and Lead Vet on a varied caseload.

The Role
The Patient Care Assistant role is foundational to a high-quality veterinary practice. As a PCA you will support qualified RVNs and Vets to provide outstanding care to our patients, working with a passionate and collaborative team. This role involves animal handling, assisting vets and nurses in restraining animals for treatment, cleaning, walking and feeding patients, general cleaning and maintenance, and reception cover when needed (answering phone calls, greeting clients, and delivering high standards of animal and customer care).

What we’re looking for in our Veterinary Patient Care Assistant
* An excellent communicator with strong empathy
* Excellent customer service skills and experience in dealing with members of the public
* Experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning, medicating and handling, with understanding of welfare needs
* Resilient with the ability to cope with potentially distressing and emotional situations
* A positive attitude and excellent teamwork skills
* An understanding of health and safety and comfort with manual handling tasks
* Experience in looking after animals in a veterinary environment is desirable
