We promote reading for pleasure to encourage, inspire and share a love of reading for all. Our vision is for a Wales where everyone can be a reader, and where everyone has access to books irrespective of their ability to afford them. What difference will you make? As part of our board you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our purpose to support the publishing industry in Wales and promote Reading for Pleasure. This emphasis on our dual role makes us unique – there isn't another equivalent organisation that fulfils the range of roles we do within the publishing sector or within the arts in Wales. As a result we have a number of very different audiences with a wide range of needs and expectations. Would you like to be an ambassador for the Books Council and our work? What are we looking for? We are looking for Trustees who have a clear commitment to the strategic aims and objectives of the Books Council as outlined in our strategic plan have an understanding of the environment in which the publishing industry in Wales operates possess a general appreciation of the literature of Wales in both languages, and believe in the transformative power of reading value and understand bilingualism and how it impacts on our organisation, the sector and Wales as a whole can demonstrate a clear commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as it relates to their own area of expertise and to the public sector as a whole have an understanding of the policy and legislative environment in Wales in which our organisation operates possess excellent communications skills, challenge constructively but are also able to build consensus demonstrate stron strategic and analytical skills want to be active Board members, committing the time and thought needed. What will you be doing? We are searching for New Trustees with specific knowledge and experience to strengthen our Board. We are looking for individuals who have a strong commitment to literature and the publishing sector in Wales and a belief in the transformative power of reading. We are particularly interested in Trustees who value bilingualism and understand how it impacts on our organisation, the sector and Wales as a whole. We are especially interested in hearing from individuals with a working knowledge of the current curriculum in secondary education in Wales academic expertise in the field of Welsh Writing in English experience in community engagement activities centred around young adults. This is an exciting opportunity to advocate on behalf of our organisation and the sector and to make a long-lasting contribution to the creative industries in Wales.
