We are home to the UKs largest Benedictine monastic community, rooted in the Rule of St Benedict. Located in the Howardian Hills near York, the Abbey welcomes thousands of visitors each year to its Retreat Centre, Visitor Centre, Shop and Tea Room.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced fundraiser to support the sustainable growth and impact of the company.
You will play a key role in developing and delivering fundraising strategies, managing donor relationships, and guiding supporters through their giving journey. This includes individual giving, legacies, major gifts, partnerships, grants, trusts and foundations.
You will work closely with the Head of Marketing, Communications and Development to deliver fundraising campaigns, develop supporter engagement, and secure income from a range of sources in line with agreed targets.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop and implement fundraising strategies across individual giving, legacies, major donors and partnerships
Manage and grow individual giving and legacy programmes
Support development of major donor and corporate fundraising portfolios
Identify and secure funding opportunities including trusts and foundations
Prepare and submit high-quality funding applications and grant reports
Plan and deliver fundraising campaigns, appeals and events
Develop compelling fundraising content and supporter communications
Maintain accurate fundraising database records and reporting
Manage the fundraising budget and report on performance
Build and maintain relationships with donors, partners and stakeholders
Ensure all fundraising activity is compliant with relevant legislation
Experience
Proven experience in charity fundraising
Experience managing individual giving campaigns including regular giving and legacies
Strong bid writing experience with a track record of securing grant funding
Experience delivering fundraising campaigns and events
Experience of donor stewardship and stakeholder engagement
Experience working within the charity or faith-based sector (desirable)
Member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising (desirable)
Skills and Attributes
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
Strong organisational and time management skills
Budget management and financial awareness
Confident presenting to internal and external audiences
Ability to write engaging content for a range of audiences
Experience using CRM databases for reporting and segmentation
Strong project management and IT skills
Understanding of fundraising compliance and legislation
Empathy towards the work of the Monastic Community
