Transport Manager

The Transport Manager is responsible for leading the logistical operations of the Branch, ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective movement of products to our customers. This role involves managing Transport Planners and Delivery Drivers whilst working in partnership with Sales, Warehouse and Stock Control teams. The role is also responsible for maintaining a Fleet of vehicles in compliance with O Licence Conditions and FORs ensuring driver training is maintained and legally compliant.


What you will be doing:

* Responsible for managing the transport within budget by monitoring vehicle spend (including aged fleet vehicle repairs), minimizing agency reliance and by utilizing the existing workforce to drive efficiency.
* Responsible for training, developing and retaining drivers and transport planners providing training, 1-2-1 discussions and ensuring adherence with site, FORS and legal compliance.
* To lead by example in actively promoting and inspiring a culture of health and safety where every team member's contribution and safety is considered critical.
* Working in partnership with other departments to ensure operations run seamlessly with OTIF in line with local KPIs. Manage transport activities within the Branch, ensuring the implementation of best practice techniques and that the use of resources is maximised in order to minimise cost and maximise profit. Ensure that planning activity is effective, and where required reacting to operational needs (e.g. weather, no access to sites).
* Responsible for ensuring compliance with FORs ensuring drivers records are maintained and up to date and O licenses are in place.
* Utilize planning systems effectively to ensure efficient use of the workforce and analyze data to identify areas for improvement.
* Responsible for tracking and reporting KPIs related to transport operations, including on time delivery rates, fuel efficiency and vehicle utilization. Analyze data to identify trends and issues to make recommendations for improvements.


What you will bring:

* Effective planning/routing of transport fleet
* Solid understanding for IT software packages including Microsoft Office
* Budget management awareness
* Leading and managing the performance of transport staff in meeting delivery, vehicle and customer service targets and requirements
* Performance against budget
* Proficient understanding of WTD, Tacho, Driving Hours & FORs compliance
* Co‑operation with other branch staff in co‑ordinating logistics requirements
* Flexibility in the role
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
