Organisation Hampshire Cricket Salary £450-640 per day dependent on experience (FTE £120,000-165,000) Location Utilita Bowl, Botley Road, West End, Southampton, SO30 3XH Contract type Permanent (Part time) Closing date 12 February 2026 Interview date 16 February 2026 Job Description This role is an exciting opportunity to work in close partnership with our current CMO within our dynamic multidisciplinary medical team at Hampshire Cricket. It will involve direct delivery of medical provision across our professional men's, women's and academy squads. We see this role as a critical component of our success and are looking for an enthusiastic doctor with experience of working in an integrated manner within an elite sports environment. The role will be a mix of match day cover, on call telephone support as well as direct face to face delivery of medical provision. The role will require an element of flexibility as hours/days of work will vary but can be structured/coordinated to provide plenty of prior to notice (up to 12 months in advance) to aid planning.


Key Responsibilities
•Be involved in overseeing and co-ordinating the medical care of Hampshire Cricket players, including diagnosis, management, and prevention of injuries and illnesses; and co-ordinating the input of other doctors including NHS and private medical services.
•Cover includes involvement in all professionally contracted playing staff and those within the academy.
•Work closely with the Head of Science and Medicine and CMO to deliver a high level of clinical governance across the programme.
•Support the CMO by contributing to medical policies, protocols and risk assessments including emergency action plans, illness, travel and mental health policies.
•In combination with the CMO conduct targeted medical screening/athlete health reviews, ensuring follow up of any investigations, including blood and cardiac screening, and referral where appropriate.
•Manage own workload effectively, demonstrating initiative and the ability to prioritise tasks without direct supervision.
•Maintain strict confidentiality at all times due to exposure to medical, personal, and performance-related information.
•Work flexibly to meet team needs, including some out-of-hours and weekend working.
•Assist when appropriate, with arrangement and the delivery of medical training sessions and CPD events.
•Maintain close direct communication with the current CMO as well as all other members of the MDT regarding medical illness and injuries.
•Liaise with external medical professionals regarding ongoing medical care.
•Work with the Head of Science and Sports Medicine, CMO, physiotherapists and other identified staff to contribute to the individual athlete planning process and improvement of athlete performance through evaluation, development and implementation of medical services.
•Work closely with the wider sports science and medicine team, communicating and sharing openly within the permissions of the athletes.
•Maintain up to date clinical records using the ECB medical records system (Smartabase) in line with good clinical governance.
•Maintain up to date knowledge of anti-doping policies, procedures and TUE processes for the sports providing support and advice where necessary.
Additional Tasks
•Maintain annual appraisal and revalidation as required by the GMC and appropriate to the speciality of Sport and Exercise Medicine
•Ensure that all systems for medical care of athletes comply with the England Cricket Board guidelines.
•Take part in personal continuing professional development relevant to this role and as agreed with the CMO

Experience and Qualifications


Essential:
•Full registration with the GMC.
•Right to work in the UK.
•Medical indemnity cover at a level appropriate for this role (e.g. MDU, MPS, MDDUS, SEMPRIS).
•Strong background in sports medicine and high performance environments with competency in clinical examination, functional assessment and medical management of sports injuries and illness.
•Experience of clinical monitoring and management of sports squads within the bounds of evidenced based medicine.
•An understanding of the needs of elite athletes and coaches in a high-performance environment.
•A good understanding of the different science and medicine disciplines.
•An understanding of the doping rules and regulations in sport.
•Skilled in building and maintaining productive relationships with medical and non-medical colleagues.
•Skilled in co-ordinating medical care remotely.
•Committed to maintain clinical skills and continuing professional development relevant to the athletes that are being seen.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with medical professionals and athletes.
•Recognition of the importance of promoting and supporting equality, inclusion, safeguarding and antidoping within sport.
•High attention to detail and accuracy in record management.
•Proven ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
•High level of discretion and understanding of medical confidentiality and data protection.
•Will likely be required to work with athletes under 18 (DBS check required).

Desirable / Preferable:
•Experience working in elite cricket, or performance environments.
•Specialist training in Sports and Exercise Medicine
•Member or Fellow of Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine.
•Current advanced life support qualification from a recognised organisation (or willingness to complete within 3 months of appointment).

Hours Of Work

Core hours – The role is for a minimum of 40 days per year with the hours to be discussed with the successful candidate to fulfil the needs of the club whilst recognising the portfolio of the candidate.
Any required match cover will be paid additionally.
