We're working with a local authority in Cambridgeshire who are recruiting a Principal Planner for a 12-month contract. As the Principal Planner, you will lead onplex infrastructure planning projects, including TWAO and NSIP schemes.
Your new role
This is a varied role where you will;
1. Lead onplex infrastructure planning projects including TWAO and NSIP schemes
2. Project manage the end-to-end infrastructure planning project process, including stakeholder engagement, risk management, evidence preparation, and public inquiries.
3. Represent the shared planning service in high-level meetings with applicants, statutory consultees, elected members, legal counsel, and external stakeholders.
4. Coordinate internal and external inputs across planning, transport, environment, legal, and other technical services.
5. Support policy alignment with Local Plans, National Policy Statements (NPS), andernment infrastructure priorities.
What you'll need to succeed
6. Strong project management skills, including proven experience of leadingplex infrastructure planning projects under the TWAO and NSIP regulatory regimes from inception to decision (Essential).
7. Excellent understanding of UK planning legislation and policy, particularly the Planning Act 2008, TWA 1992, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, and Localism Act (Essential).
8. Proven ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, managepeting deadlines, and ensure delivery of high-quality outputs (Essential).
9. Experience of preparing Local Impact Reports, Relevant Representations, and Written Representations for NSIPs (Essential).
10. Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, including working with localmunities, developers, legal advisors, and statutory consultees (Essential).
11. Experience of taking part in public inquiry or the formal examination process (Desirable).
12. Experience with Planning Performance Agreements, using project tracking tools and digital planning systems (Desirable).
13. Full clean driving licence (Essential).
Qualifications:
14. RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline.
15. Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) or eligible for it.
What you'll get in return
This is a 12-month contract which may be extended. The organisation have a flexible / agile working arrangement whereby some time will be spent working from the office and some from home. We expect you'll be in the office up to 2 days per week. The organisation is open to considering day rates at differing levels depending on experience.
