Role Summary
Portsmouth FC are seeking to recruit an experienced and fully qualified Lead Academy Physiotherapist to manage their medical delivery in the Academy across all age groups (U9-U18).
You will lead the physio provision for the full time U18 scholar players, through attendance at all training and games. Further essential duties with the U18s will be to deliver clinical treatment and assessment of injured players and in collaboration with the S&C Lead Coach, create return to play protocols for all injured U18 players.
Building strong relationships with the 1stteam medical staff, you will agree injury assessment and treatment plans for longer term injuries. Additionally, you will line manage the team of casual physio’s and sports therapists. Leading on the organisation of their working rotas to ensure all training and games are supported and their continuous professional development to ensure all medical aspects in the training and game operations of the U9-U16 programme are professionally catered for.
The role holder will be expected to demonstrate the club values in all aspects of the role and act as a mentor to all U18 players.
As a member of the Academy Management Team, you will manage the recording and storage of all confidential medical information and drive standards in your department and across the wider academy to help reach the strategic goals, through the successful implementation of departmental KPI’s.
Key Tasks
* Be the primary contact on all medical/health matters in relation to all Academy players
* Responsible for the assessment and treatment of the Academy players. This would include the development, organisation and implementation of the treatment and rehabilitation programmes for the academy players
* Report all injuries immediately to the Academy Manager and relevant phase coaches
* Ensure stringent confidentiality is applied around the capturing and storing of medical records
* Lead the provision of Physiotherapy cover on U18 training & match days. This would include the “pre-match” medical preparation, the provision of “on-field” first aid and treatment and the “post-match” medical recovery
* Co-ordinate the medical screening (cardiological and orthopaedic) for those academy players as designated under The F.A. sponsored scheme to ensure all regulations are followed
* Develop and maintain individual injury prevention programmes based on comprehensive screening of all Academy players
* In conjunction with the Academy Doctor, liaise with players and parents with regards to all treatment clinics, education briefings and all other medical related issues
* Co-ordinate and implement an effective “Audit of Injuries” research programme for the academy players as designated by EPPP requirements
* Attend all briefings, courses and seminars as required by The Academy, The Club and The Football Association Medical Education Centre as designated in EPPP requirements.
* Implement a CPD programme for the casual medical staff
* Line manage all casual and intern medical staff (Rota’s/ Timesheets) to ensure all training and games are covered
* Facilitate appraisals of staff in their charge as directed by the Academy Manager
* Ensure all medical equipment is current, suitably stocked and arranged for each training and game
* Support where required, academy induction events, parent workshops and contribute to weekly multi - disciplinary meetings and monthly academy management meetings
* Actively promote exemplary behaviours that support the creation of a high-performance environment for staff and players
* Self-aware of your own developmental needs and proactive in undertaking CPD
About The Candidate
Essential requirements of the role:
The appointed coach must have:
* BSc Hons in physiotherapy (completed)
* HCPC Registered (completed)
* Member CSP
* Intermediate Trauma and Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF) or equivalent
* FA Safeguarding certificate
* Experience working with youth and young adult footballers or athletes from another sport
* Given the training locations and games schedule, a valid driving licence with frequent access to a car is essential
* Right to work in the UK in a professional sports organisation must be held at the time of applying
* Desirable qualifications:
* MSc in Physiotherapy
* The candidate will be working towards Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF)
* Football Intelligence Platform user experience
