Plymouth City Council is seeking an experienced and proactive Member Services Team Leader to lead the delivery of high quality support to our elected members and civic functions. This is a pivotal role at the heart of the Council, supporting the democratic process, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met, and enabling elected members to serve their communities effectively.
As the Member Services Team Leader, you will manage a dedicated team responsible for providing a broad range of support functions to councillors, the Lord Mayor, and the wider organisation. You will work closely with colleagues across the Executive Office, Democratic, Oversight & Governance teams, and other services to ensure seamless coordination and excellent service delivery.
Responsibilities
You will provide day to day leadership and direction for the Member Services team, ensuring consistent, professional, and politically aware support for councillors and key stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:
* Leading, developing, and line managing a team of up to 8 staff.
* Ensuring statutory duties are met, including oversight of school admissions appeals, FOIs and SARs within the department, and other regulated functions.
* Overseeing councillor casework processes and the Community Grant Scheme.
* Managing the coordination and delivery of the Member Development Scheme.
* Supporting the planning and delivery of civic events, official meetings, ceremonial duties, and committees.
* Acting as Health & Safety representative for the directorate.
* Supporting the operational management of the Council House building.
* Providing advice and guidance to councillors, ensuring support is politically neutral, responsive, and effective.
* Maintaining close working relationships with stakeholders across the Council and external partners.
