Offer description

We are recruiting for a Consultant in Fetal Medicine & Obstetrics who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff. The successful candidate will provide specialist Fetal Medicine Consultant Care in Medway Fetal and Maternal Medicine Centre (MFMC) and support the on‑call obstetric rota on the labour ward. A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the Clinical Director within 3 months of commencement and signed off by the Chief Executive Officer. This plan will be reviewed annually following the appraisal meeting and will outline the consultant’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide specialist Fetal Medicine Consultant Care at MFMC and support the on‑call obstetric rota on the labour ward.
* Direct Clinical Care (DCC): 8.5 programmed activities per week, including clinical activity, clinically related activity, and predictable and unpredictable emergency work.
* Supporting Professional Activities (SPA): 1.5 programmed activities per week, including continuing professional development, audit, teaching and research.
* Provide a positive learning environment for Junior Doctors, arranging own Continuing Medical Education/Continuing Professional Development in line with RCOG guidelines.
* Maintain waiting lists, waiting times and admissions in line with the Medway NHS Policy and participate in monthly departmental management meetings.
* Ensure Junior Doctors fulfil their timetable commitments to maintain a high‑quality service.
* Play a part in the Trust’s Quality Assurance and Consumer Relations Policy and attend monthly audit meetings of the Medical Audit Advisory Committee.
* Actively participate in the National Confidential Enquiries and audit programmes.

Education and Professional Development

All Consultants are required to provide a positive learning environment for Junior Doctors both formally and informally and to arrange their own Continuing Medical Education/Continuing Professional Development according to RCOG guidelines.

Administrative and Managerial Responsibilities

Maintain waiting lists, waiting times and admissions in line with the Medway NHS Policy; participate in monthly departmental management meetings; and be responsible for Junior Doctors fulfilling their timetable commitments.

Quality Assurance & Audit, Clinical Governance

The Trust has adopted a comprehensive Quality Assurance and Consumer Relations Policy. All staff members are expected to play their part, with the Medical Audit Advisory Committee leading the audit programme. Attendance at monthly audit meetings is required.

Annual Leave and Study Leave

Annual Leave and Study Leave are available in accordance with national agreements. Leave must be coordinated with other Consultants; ideally no more than four senior members of staff may take planned leave simultaneously. Six weeks’ notice of annual or study leave must be provided to the Medical Staffing Manager. Consultants may not take annual leave during their on‑call week unless effective cover arrangements have been made. Private study leave is only approved in certain circumstances: a maximum of 30 days may be approved over a period of 3 years for Consultants.

Equality of Opportunity

We are committed to Equality of Opportunity for everyone and will guarantee an interview to any disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria.
