We are looking for an experienced clinical psychologist with skills in all of the following: teaching, supervision, complex interventions and service development. Excellent interpersonal skills are also required. You will provide highly specialised psychological assessment and therapy as well as offering consultation to the wider MDT and others. In your role you will be responsible for the governance of psychological therapies in the team. You will also be expected to provide clinical supervision to assistant psychologists, trainee psychologists, qualified 8A psychologists and other multi‑professional staff in the learning disabilities service. As a senior member of the team you will have active input to the ongoing development and governance of team processes. Working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the board, and service’s policies and procedures.

Engagement in research, QI, audit and service development is actively encouraged, with time allocated in the job plan to support this, both locally and Board wide. The post‑holder will be expected to have experience of working autonomously with a wide variety of client groups, preferably those with a learning disability, and exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment.

There are excellent links with the University of Glasgow’s doctoral training programme. The post‑holder will have opportunities to supervise DClinPsy trainees and contribute to academic teaching. The post requires significant clinical psychology practice experience in NHS or equivalent (ideally with significant experience within specialist learning disability services), supervised by a suitably qualified Clinical Psychologist.

Applicants should be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and will be required to maintain their registration through regular supervision and CPD, as a condition of continued employment. Professional development is strongly supported and the post holder will be encouraged to take advantage of CPD opportunities available through NHS Education for Scotland and the wider Specialist Learning Disability Service. AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

* Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
* Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
* Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
