Job Description
Radioactive Materials Transport Package Engineer - Glasgow, UK
About the Role
EDF Energy moved over 1,600 packages containing radioactive material last year to support and decommission at its eight nuclear sites. Our Radioactive Materials Package Design Authority plays a crucial role in ensuring safe and compliant transport solutions within the UK and overseas. We are seeking an engineer to contribute to the engineering behind the successful delivery of radioactive material transport.
The Opportunity
The Radioactive Materials Transport Package Engineer will work within the multidisciplinary Spent Fuel Services Team, which delivers EDF Energy’s dual mission: the safe defuelling of our AGR nuclear reactors and supporting continued operations of our AGR & PWR nuclear power stations.
The team provides engineered solutions for the safe and compliant transport of radioactive materials, managing the design, operation, maintenance, modification, and technical requirements of various transport packages, including the A2 Spent Fuel Flask.
You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including nuclear power stations, suppliers, and regulators, to manage these packages throughout their lifecycle. The role involves visiting nuclear sites and supply partners, providing technical advice, supervising major works, and participating in audits and benchmarking activities. International travel may occasionally be required.
Pay, Benefits, and Culture
We offer a competitive salary ranging from £61,730 to £81,263, based on experience and qualifications, with benefits including enhanced parental leave, electric vehicle leasing, health insurance, and more. We promote flexibility and support a collaborative and inclusive working environment, whether onsite, remote, or in office spaces.
We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, aiming for a workforce that reflects a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. Please let us know if you require reasonable adjustments during the application process.

* Managing records and mentoring staff on regulations.
Who You Are
* Minimum HNC qualification in Mathematics, Science, or Engineering; degree preferred.
* Experience in a regulated industry, with awareness of the nuclear sector.
* Strong technical, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to react quickly to operational issues and communicate effectively.
* Experience managing suppliers and understanding health, safety, and environmental legislation.
